Welcome to the forum! Nice intro post. Thank you for following the rules here. You are off to a very good start.
I see you are looking into a sidearm possibly. I typically do not use one, mainly due to the weather conditions affecting my gbb's performance during the colder months. With that said, I have played without one before. Its has its pros and cons. Pros being, you are slightly more mobile, and do not have to worry about possibly having it fall out of its holster. Also, you do not have to carry around spare mags for the pistol as well, which again, helps increase mobility.
However, some of the cons: MED is a factor. Depending how hot your primary is shooting, you may not want to engage people at a certain distance. I have had times where I have been taken out at close range when I had a easy shot on the target. I did not have my pistol, and refused to shoot the player from the small distance with my primary due to its fps output. This resulted in the player being able to take me out with ease.
So there are a few things to look at when deciding whether to get a sidearm or not. In the end, its up to you, and greatly depends on how you play, where you play, etc.
