Hello sniper community! I was thinking of starting with sniping. I have a few questions about it. I was thinking spring sniper because I can upgrade it, but what are some upsides and downsides to gas vs. spring.
Second question. I was looking at the JG Bar-10, TM VSR-10, KJW M700, or the TM l96 because it reminds me of the AWP from CS:GO. How upgradeable are they?
Third question. What power of scope is good if I'm playing on a field that is about 100 yds. long? I was thinking a 2x red dot or a 1.5-12x40

Welcome. Gas rifles are inherently more expensive to run. Can be a absolute pain to work on at times. Upgrades are limited to non-existent depending on model.

Gas rifles do have easy bolt pull, are generally quieter, and just as consistent as a proper spring rifle, some times better (depending on setup.)

Spring rifles are easy to work on, generally the better starting platform. Bolt pull can be a bit of a royal pain depending on the spring.

The bar10 is a 100% clone of the VSR10, generally the bar10 is the way to go as it is cheaper then the VSR. The vsr line has tons of upgrades. The TM L96, no comment, never owned one.

The kjw is a decent gas rifle, but upgrades are limited.

3-9x40 is what most of us use.

What are the rules for your field as far as power is concerned?

If you want an L96 (AI AW style gun) then look at a "type 96" rifle, such as the WELL MB01. The L96 AWS (made by TM) is a bit of a pain to work on. Not impossible, but a type 96 platform is better.

The VSR platform is also great, but if you go with this one go with the JG BAR 10 rather than the VSR. The external quality is the same and you'll be swapping out the internals anyway

I'm no expert on gas rifles, but like Plazma said, they're generally more of a pain to work on and require an HPA conversion to be effective. I'd get a spring gun to start out with.

A 100 yards field is pretty small for a sniper role. Sniper rifles generally have a range of up to 100 yards so you'll only be able to engage at the maximum engagement distance if you're shooting from spawn to spawn :hehe:

Either way, welcome aboard ;)

I couldn't agree more. I own both (in clone form).

Type 96 and clones - well mb01, 04, 05, 08 - have bigger cylinder volume, longer bolt travel, Straight section outer barrel (easier for spacing the inner barrel). Direct feeding (no ramp like tm l96) and much easier to take apart - there are bilions of small screws in this thing...
Replacing the stock spring in matrui tm l96 also makes the bolt pull very stiff and generally cycling the bolt is the opposite of smooth.
I bought my tm l96 clone after having the mb01 for a while smiply cause I love the way it looks with the mag in the right place and the flutted tapered outer barrel. It's a beauty.
Disadvantages for the type 96 (maruzen) would be: the mag catch can get droopy after a while and I personally dont like the interface between the outer barrel and upper receiver - held in place by a tiny grub screw which has the habbit of unscrewing itself. Apart from that it's a lovely rifle.

Welcome to our forum!... I only joined yesterday :))
