Being lurking around in this forum reading lots of stuff on sniper. Figured might as well say hi.

A little about me. Just started last year October in the hobby in Japan. I am still quite new to the technical side of things. Currently in the progress of upgrading a 2nd hand AAT10 that I bought! Nice to be part of the forum

Welcome to the forum Legatum! So, you play Airsoft in Japan - is that correct? I'd be curious to know what Airsoft in Japan is like, I hear it's really intense and a very popular sport. What are the fields like? How about the rule set? Glad to have you here my friend.

Yep, I play in Japan. Rules wise, the limit is 0.98J, no overhead throws, no smoke bombs or anything pyro, and don’t be a dick, but if you are a foreigner you have to suck it up if people complain about you, you are not going to win the argument most of the time. Don’t let that discourage you, there are plenty of fields are fair to all players. Most indoor fields tends to have lower speed, roughly 86 m/s max or the max 98. Japanese players are here are passive in general, they don’t want to get hurt apparently…. but the foreign players just go RUSH RUSH RUSH.

The fields here are just appropriate size for like 60 vs 60, there are some larger fields but never went to them yet (I live near prime location for big airsoft fields in Japan).

Wow! That's really cool and good information Legatum!

My son is really into Japanese culture, he's even been studying the language for several years (I can only say hello and goodbye). He hopes to go to Japan one day, and even play some Airsoft if possible (although I hear it's all but impossible to get your Airsoft replica weapons into Japan).

Funny you talked about foreign players just going Rush Rush Rush, my son's favorite roles are Rusher, Commando, and Gunner (I'm the marksman\sniper). I bet the selection of weapons and gear is pretty awesome there, the Japanese being so into the sport.

Well welcome to the forum my friend!

Welcome aboard.

I remember Japanese airsoft when Asahi and similar companies were still extant and before the current laws hit in 2006, limiting you to .98j or under.....which was a little odd as at the time no fields allowed you to play with more than that power limit, and Japanese-made replicas weren't manufactured above that limit either. Well......that's not 100% accurate as there were some fields that allowed slightly more power for snipers (and some companies that did upgrades....)but the limited size of Japanese fields also limited the playstyle to some extent. It was an extremely messy situation but could have been so much worse....

It was quite the time for innovation as Japanese designers tried their very best to extract every ounce of performance from their replicas and we saw Tanio-Koba barrels, the magic Tokyo Marui replicas.....but some of the stores I used to buy from either closed down or limited their stock and I could no longer find Tanaka revolvers!

From what I heard, they limited the Joule limit due to a group of people did drive by with HPA guns in a town or something. Which that leads to parts that are sold here doesn’t make your gun go past 90 (not counting homemade modifications). Like I couldn’t even get a M100 spring for my sniper here

It was madness. There were Police visitations, some guy confronting officers with a bat, and I think one or two folks did get hit with firearms offenses?

1j is plenty tbh, I had a Tokyo Marui SG1 with a TK barrel and that had an insane range without going over 1j.....people just want bigger numbers so we have to run bigger numbers to avoid being disadvantaged. Are the fields still expensive over there?

Indoors are like 4K Yen for 3 hours while outdoors are like 3.5-4k Yen from 9.30-4.30.

I went to a hotel field once, 5 stories all room accessible, with the toilets, security and rest room were off limits. The field is like 4.5k Yen for 3 hours or so and is in the middle of city. Plus the place is well furnished enough that you won’t think it looks abandon or unused
