Greetings, all! Not sure if this is the place for this question but it seemed the lesser of all misplacements...
Most folks are probably familiar with 'Shoot-n-See" targets. They're usually black-on-yellow, and when hit the hole displays a yellow ring around the edges of the hole. Looking at them on Amazon, (and Shopee, the local equivalent) they'd get a bit pricey for me, as all I do is target shoot. I wonder if anyone has tried to make some of their own, and if so how did they work? I've tried using 2 layers of construction paper (black over yellow) but it doesn't seem to work, the holes are the same size and the yellow doesn't create any visible 'ring'. I tried some sprayed-on layers, but paint doesn't work either.
Any ideas/suggestions? Thanx.

I was gifted a pack long ago and may still have a couple, but it is essentially a weak paint over a thick glossy paper, so that the paint will come off easily.

If I need groupings I usually just shoot at a piece of paper or cardboard with a thin lines cross covering the whole thing, or I will just shoot at my 50m 290mm steel plate from my window, or a can hanging from a tree at about 25m. Not super exciting, but for my uses I can just imagine the grouping as I am looking to make it smaller.

I talk to a fellow in Japan who shoots at 9m and has a coin attached to a string inside of his catch box and he seems to favor that the most, so maybe that would be something you could look into.

Thanks for that vid. The only thing I'm not sure about is that at the ranges at which
I shoot, if the BB would penetrate that tape. I've used that stuff before and it's pretty strong, but it seems worth a shot.
Gonna look up some of the DIY vids he mentioned and see what else has been tried.
Just for fun, here's a schematic of my "gallery"...
