The air brake enters the tip of the nozzle which seals off the inside of the cylinder before the piston hits. Not a perfect seal but more so an obstruction so the piston slows down RIGHT before hitting the cylinder head. It reduces the impact speed and that’s what reduces sound. Usually, the longer the air brake, the more fps you lose since you’re losing more speed to push that bb.

I tried to explain in my previous comment; when you pull the trigger, the piston is released and it moves forward. Taking all of the air inside of the cylinder, and pushing it out the nozzle. The nozzle hole is small and the air brake fits into it. Since the air brake enters the cylinder head hole, it reduces the flow of air leaving the cylinder. Since the piston is pushing the air out, and the air brake is blocking it, the piston slows down right before impact

Still thinking about what you said and spontaneously in me born a question: imagine that we have the same production of sound and energy from a piston with and without air-brake...technically without air brake the air produced will push better the bbs.... so the question is: if with 2 piston one with airbrake and one without and both give us the same type of characteristics will be better for the bb to mount in the replica an airbrake or not?

The best way to minimize sound withOUT an air brake is probably volume matching. That involves the cylinder to barrel to bb weight ratio. Tons of variables. But honestly, air brake and suppressor are the 2 biggest aids in sound reduction for your airsoft sniper rifle. Especially for a spring gun. That’s in my opinion anyways. All of the others things are very minimal. But will add a noticeable difference if you do EVERYTHING.

Wait now I'm not talking about sound but how the air push the BB... Without the airbrake air generated with the piston should push better the BB.... I'm not sure if I'm clear

Suppressor, volume matching, heavy bbs, foam in stock, foam or other deadening material where you can fit it, sorbo pad, ejection port cover and I’m probably forgetting some. Most of those mods reduce sound very little if anything.

One sound related tip people forget is position/location you are firing the rifle in. Whilst it won't always hide the sound much you can be difficult to locate depending on how the sound is bouncing round the environment.

The true test of sound is seeing if other players hear you in game, at home everything always seems 10x louder as your more focused on it
