I recently skirmished my R-hopped A&K SVD, and I noticed that while I was able to hit targets at extreme range (250ft) rather easily, I had insane hop at shorter range, and had to aim stupidly low to come even close to hitting anyone.

I'm kinda new to this sniping business, so I want to know if this is how most snipers handle hop, or if I should try to adjust it.

Also, what is the general trajectory of a properly hopped shot?

Thanks,
Defgun

Yeah, 250 is a minor lob. 200-ish is pretty much at the crosshair. 150 is way high.

The flight path is not, however, as even as I like... I share Cheese Man's love of long and flat trajectories.

When I set the hop, I didn't realize that when I'm in my favorite killing zone, the major infantry paths spill into my field of death less than 150 feet from the spots in which I hide.

Same here. Long and flat means you can pretty much hit anything in that range. With .3s my tanaka was hitting 225' on a straight flight path. With .43s it seems to be even better.

It's not quite straight up, but it definitely prevents me from shooting well.

The tech who did the R-hop offered to adjust the nub to fix my overhop, so I should be fine from here on out.

The is a difference between overhop (as *I* use the term) and not being able to adjust the hop enough, ie turn it down enough.

If you have too much hop, even when you turn the hop all the way down you can either up the power or use a heavier round, (or change the hop, nub to start with).

I think that an M nub was designed to make it easy to adjust the hop on an R/ER hop setup.

It looks like you would want to have your ER-Hop setup to have a possibility of almost zero hop (Such as how Reezo did in his videos), especially if you want to also have a LRB mod installed.

My bad. I found it searching for info on R-hops. It may have been a little too long without caffeine, as it sure looked like Cheese Man commented on 3-20-2013 when I decided to reply.

There is a stickied thread I made with all the info you would ever wan to know about the r-hop, called the r-hop database. I did all the hard work for you guys.

EDIT: Just added a link to it in my sig. So if anyone asks anything about the r-hop that is already covered, I'm not going to answer. (not aimed at any one person, just everyone in general).
