Got a JG BAR 10 just to plink with in my house and around the yard, from ranges mostly of 10-20 yards but maybe sometimes out to 30 or 40. I have a break barrel BB gun but airsoft seems more appropriate and I get to spend more time shooting and less time loading pellets one by one and cleaning the barrel every 100 shots. The accuracy stock on my BAR10 is garbage, I'm getting 2" groupings at 15 yards firing supported which is totally unacceptable for target practice. I've been reading a lot about what to upgrade, but I'm not sure what all I need to upgrade for my application.

Firstly, getting a new inner barrel is clearly mandatory. Thinking of getting an AA or ML one, not sure if one is better than the other.

Secondly, can I just turn my hop up off? I'm mostly shooting from 15 or 20 yards. Rather than upgrading anything, can I just not use it? Or maybe just upgrade the bucking and nub instead of the chamber?

If so, I'm greatly confused by which hop up buckings are considered best for VSR-10s. I'm reading a lot of good things about Maple Leaf's MR hop, but it seems like a lot of people like the Decepticons and it seems like a couple others are pretty popular as well? If I do go with the MR hop it sounds like the Omega nub is best?

I'll replace the trigger box with a proper one if/when it breaks. Power upgrades seem unnecessary, it's plenty powerful for 20 yards.

So as of right now I'm thinking of getting the AA barrel and some spacers. It is unclear to me if I need to replace the bucking, nub, hop chamber itself, or anything else. If anyone could guide me on what needs replacing to get good groupings at short distance without upgrading anything else that would be highly appreciated. I'm willing to spend up to $200 but cheaper is always better.

Thanks!

Cheap AA barrel maple leaf hop rubber, 50° with omega nub. Should do you to be honest. Don't need any power upgrades at that level.

Rad, thanks for the advice. For the ML hop up are we talking their fancypants MR hop up or one of their more conventional ones? Or do you think it doesn't particularly matter for my application?

I would honestly just take it apart, clean and re lube what’s necessary, and Teflon seal a new bucking. Some models have an air brake so if you want another little fps boost just cut that off.
I ended up spending $80 on a barrel, spacers, and new hop up stuff. Based off of usually shooting 50-100 rounds from my break barrel BB gun a day I imagine I might be shooting 100-400 BBs a day from my BAR10, so I really don't mind spending the money.

Am curious to try out your recommendation though. Found some clean & lube guides on YouTube, I'll follow along.

Does the bucking still impact the BB when it's set to all the way off? That's how I have it for now as the furthest I've shot is 20 yards. Is that OK or should I have some minimal amount of hop up applied even if I don't need the range?

With the hop off it can effect the air seal. But if your rifle has perfect air seal you don’t really need a new bucking. But I think it’s worth it incase you ever want to shoot a little further. Also you may need a LITTLE hop applied to keep each bb in place before firing. Sometimes with no hop, the bb will roll out of the barrel every time you rack it.

Very helpful information. Thank you very much.
