Hey fellow airsofters! I am trying to get into the sniping roll and want the goal of being able to pick off players from the best range possible. I know that Hpa guns almost run that sport of airsoft in the performance aspect. However I see that there are awesome spring rifles that have proven to be very effective when upgraded.

I just don't know which side to lean towards and don't want to regret it for I only have so much money I want to put into this sport lol.

Any response helps

A hpa semi/fa capable rifle will be more variable in use, you can lock in field fps easily and the rof will help in faster games.
Bolt sniper (spring or hpa) only shine on fields with higher fps limits for these rifles.

Depends on the field. If the engagement distance on the field is limited go with the HPA. If you have good open areas with good hides go with the bolt action. The most versatile would be HPA as well. I have Pstar dmr shooting at 515fps and ranges 80m (confirmed hit and distance). My Wolverine Bolt will float BBs out to 100m, and can get a hit with one or two adjustment shots but I barely get to use it because the field I play at most engagements are under 30 meters due to vegitation.

Where do you live?

A lot of US fields are decreasing the joule limit for DMRs but keeping the normal joule limits for BASRs.
Good point. Same here in the Great White North. We have a limit of 500fps for snipers, everything else is 420fps...doesn't matter what it is. So, DMR here falls into the AEG class. There really is no advantage other than coolness factor.

It depends not on the platform but on the style of play you want to try, DMR and BOLT action are very different types of play, focus on how you want to play since both can be very close in terms of performance, one favors more a certain kind of approach to solving a situation and the other favors a different kind of approach.
