Just thought I would mention, if you are looking for ideas, spend an hour or so in a hardware store. Not home depot a good large hardware store.

I have principle that what ever I build should be supportable with locally parts and not have to buy or make buckings or what not.

Case in point I wanted to find new material for a fixed hop up. I have some but it was not working for me. So I took a stroll through my favorite Ace Hardware.

Check this out. It is very high friction and is flat and easy to cut to length. Not sure how tough it is though but I suspect it is tough enough. You could also find super tough rubber sheets in red that is 8 inches x 8 inches and 3/16 thick and is used to make plumbing gaskets.

Sometimes material leads to ideas believe it or not.

Sorry about the lighting.

Possible true yes. I just picked this up to show how you can find stuff. I am not using it myself. I believe it is a silicone compound or sorts however, not quite sure.

If you cut a section of that and run it long ways and you have a long hop up. Then, do you see those square metal keys on the desk? The big one is the exact same width as the orange rubber.

Put it on top, insert into a slot and and wallah, long run hop up. Add a spring on top or add a set screw... BAM, adjustability.

This stuff is easy to come up with. Making a little different though. But I am putting together a thread on how to make stuff. It is actually pretty straight forward.

Is this easily carve/mold-able? Seems like a decent deal. And if I could get it to work that'd be sweet. And how's the hardness? Like a little more so than a "hard type" bucking? I'm sure they have them and theres an Ace like 5 minutes from my house. Thanks for this, an I'll keep my eyes out for your tutorial thread.

That is just an example on how something as simple as going to the store can generate ideas. I have a box of crap I got that generated so many ideas I got lost.

I can make the size work, it has me contemplating variations on some existing designs I have. A god damn gain ha ha. It never ends....

Ace sells Gasket sheet too. That is mold able for sure. Talk about durable rubber!

The problem is depth. Drilling a hole more than a few inches is a problem. Even a 4 inch drill bit wobbles. Drilling a deep hole is called gun drilling and that is a specialty expensive proposition. Even then it is a round hole.

That is a neat tube and I believe it is an extruded tube?
