IR hop in a VSR?

Total noob when it comes to this kind of thing...

I've seen what the R and IR hop can do and I must say I want one in my BAR10. I'm shooting at nearly 550, for reference. I figure I'll need the IR hop because in winter it gets stupid cold in Maine. (Cheeseman will know what I'm talking about, harsh winters suck.)

First question: What do I do to my bucking and arm to get this to work? I know in involves shaving the mound and anything else inside the bucking. I currently use a PDI W hold. I plan on buy the ''easy install'' IR pack from HS5.

Second: How do I install it? I have yet to find a source that provides a straight forward guide.

Third: How bad will my performance suffer if I'm using the IR hop with a .4? HS5 suggests using the ER hop with anything greater than a .3 but I refuse to let myself cut up my PDI inner barrel, even though it's the Raven.

Shave the internal nub off your bucking and your arm. (you can use the arm I made! ;) )

It's not too bad, pick the one that has the inside channel that fits and glue it down. Then you can sand the outside. The Z-kit is nice, I just prefer to do the whole install - a little more flexibility.

It won't be too bad at all. The ER-hop is just better, but the R-hop is still good. I can do the cut with a mill if you need/want it.
So, $37 for a patch install and barrel cut for the ER hop? Sounds good to me...
What would it cost if I wanted the IR pact and one of your arms instead, as well as shipping.

So I put the patch on, my modded bucking on over that, then put the hopup arm in and adjust like a normal hopup?
Yup, if it is a brass barrel. That includes the price of the R-hop patch. If you want an IER-hop patch, it would be that plus $4 because the ER patches are $17, but the IER patches are $21.

If you want an IR install, it would be $26 (again, due to the cost of the IR patch) plus shipping. The arm will be cheaper for you to get yourself, as shipping to you from shapeways is cheaper than shipping to me.

Yes, but you want an arm without a nub. You need to use a flat, soft nub.
I just recently installed the ir-hop in my bar10 that's shooting about 550 too. I'm getting much better range and groupings than with my nineball bucking. I havn't fine tuned it yet because I havn't modified my hop arm yet. Going to soon though. You want the arm to provide an equal amount of pressure along the whole ir-hop and like cheese says, a longer soft nub is good. What I'm planning on doing is putting some nerf dart foam on the arm as a nub. The process you stated above is basically it, though I would suggest a TDC mod because you can fine tune it much easier. Just make sure the hop window has flat walls. My edgi barrel had rounded walls that I needed to file down.

Sounds good. I'm getting some money for some weapon panting I'm doing soon and expect and order from me in the near feature.

Do you have a shipping estimate?
If you do it flat rate (the best way) then it is...... $11.35 or $15.45 each way.

A prommy 430 (ish, maybe a 455) fits in a medium box, so it would be $22 (both ways) plus any extra stuff (insurance, etc.)

Just let me know.
I thought the Z-kit fit most guns without modification....
They do, but the IER-hops and IR-hops don't. And they perform a little better, honestly.

Any idea on what to ship it in? I was going to wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a 1in piece of PVC with end caps but that kind of looks like a bomb. I'm going to look for a translucent tube and use that instead.

Now, no chamber mods are needed right?
For a VSR, no. Hop arm mods are needed, but those are not hard to do on your own.

Sounds good. I'll throw you a PM in the near feature.
