Is it just me or are there a rapid number of people wanting to become a Designated Marksmen or Snipers? I know that it is a dream that we all here on this forum share and have in common but I am seeing more and more people getting bolt action rifles and trying to turn their AEGs into SPRs and PSG-1s.

I can see why they would want to. Its glorified in war movies, its glorified in video games, its glorified everywhere. Anyone with a bolt-action rifle and scope that kills someone is labeled as a sniper in the news.

Do you think the game of airsoft will slowly turn into a constant game of bolt-action rifles with a few support gunners here and there? Or do you think its just thanks to the uprise of clones like UTG that makes weapons like this more available to the people who cant afford to upgrade a G-Spec/Maruzen rifle?

Now, I am not calling myself a sniper. I didnt earn that title yet. I am simply a guy with a homemade ghillie suit and a bolt action rifle. But I am simply curious is it just me or does anyone else see a giant uprise in people wanting to grab the nearest bolt action rifle and claiming the title no matter the skill?

It's definitely because of the surge in clone rifles out there now. But do I think there will ever be a time when we're pretty much all snipers? No, I do not. There simply aren't enough people that love only sniping. Too many people that love standing up and spraying a guy as he charges toward them, or busting through a door and clearing the room within.

I agree with your opinion rabbit that the clones, movies, games, etc. are bringing more peaple Into sniping, however mabey UTG isn't that bad because first they use UTG see if they like it then mabey they wanna get into the Maruzen rifles or they can't afford it. Just my 2 cent's

I do agree with Spartan that many try sniping out with a UTG, but then they will see that with 450 FPS a bad Bi-pod, crappy lens quality, not such a great hop up and an unreliable FPS drop after lots of use, that sniping is not a piece of cake, and you can't do it with no skill and a cheap rifle especially since 98% of UTGers (my new word ;)) don't use ghillies. This will hopefully cause them to go to clone M4's and clone M15's probably made by Echo and find out that it's fun spraying 300 rounds a match and actually accumulating a kill or two! (since Echo is accually pretty good) Which most would not have been able to do with a cheap clone sniper.

And even better those that do find out that thier not bad with a UTG will then go into upgrades or a new gun and the TRUE art of sniping will be preserved.

(not someone with a sniper's rifle but one with true instinct and skill that can dominate the field with a rifle, some camo, and lots of incredible skill. Which from my experience shows only a small group of people have acquired or have the patience to do so. look at this forum of Snipers compared to AirSoftForum with a crap load of kids on)

...we can only hope...

...or school the crap out of all UTGers until they give up and want to change back to a big fully-auto weapon.

Im not saying that clones are all bad. I first started out with a UHC but I never thought about going into the role seriously with it or going into the role with it at an OP. I got into it with a infatuation by meeting a real Marine Scout/Sniper that had his rifle, pictures, ect. My Uncle Matt invited him over to my Cousin birthday party and it took off from there. I bought books ect. I was into hunting and I already shot bolt actions on the bench.

Im just saying, everyone seems to be trying to go into "The one shot one kill... unless I miss then Ill shoot again." with their UTG and SPR/SR/PSG1's

Very good Dutton.

On topic:

Embed said it best, the surge of sniper's are simply because of the wave of clones, it happens in waves. Usually after x-mas/other holidays parent's buy their kids a UTG so they can be the 1337 sniper that Vasili Zeitsev was or Carlos Hathcock (If anyone even knew who he was) and then they find out that they suck with it and usually middle of summer it dies down. It's how the rotation has gone for this entire year so far.

Reguardless, no matter what the circumstance, I don't call someone who shoots a UTG a sniper, I call them target practice. Unless of course they have real military experience and are just dicking around while they're on leave for a week or two. Also Rabbit is right, 98% of UTG snipers don't bother to invest in the proper camouflage to do it. Which makes for a pretty bad move on their part.

The thing is with a kid's mentality that buys a clone, he'll buy it. Shoot around with his buddies and be like "Oh, my clone sniper is going farther than your clone or stock AEG, therefore I own". But then they hit the field, meet people who shoot upgraded AEG's and high end stock AEG's, and shit their pants when they find out that a Tanaka M500 Gas pistol shoots farther than their 1337 rifle (Seriously, I seen it happen in person).

Anyways, to answer your question breifly, no there will never be all snipers, and yes, there is a push for snipers.. Because of examples already stated.

My Opinion: There are Snipers, then there are Marksman, then there are Randoms aka "Randy's".

"Randy's" are the guys you see with the clones, Carhart jackets and Woodland bottoms. Despite the fact hes probably just getting into the game, his rifle will always be equal to his skill level... Just short of hitting the enemy.

Marksman play the field, maybe hes toting a DMR or even a full blown bolt action. You will see him on the frontline picking off the enemy, holding his teams morale high. This guy may or may not have a ghillie on, or even a painted weapon, but he still is taking his shots one after another with accuracy. Countersnipers are in this category too.

Now the Sniper is the slow and low kind of guy, hes fully dedicated to getting his target off the field. Slithering through the shadows on the forest bed. Taking time getting to know your rifle is key, and the Sniper knows all about it, its proven with the one shot one kill. A Sniper can play a Marksman, depending on field size and players.

I think it comes from them seeing people who are good thinking they can do it too. Also all the clones.
