Mp001 don't need the edgi kit to be upgraded. They can take vsr-10 zero triggers and aps2/m24 bolt internals.

I heard that the cylinder can't be opened though?

Depends what version you have. If you have the old mp001 then you can't really but if you have the newer ones they can be opened.
