In airsoft, a fluted barrel is only looks, and perhaps a bit sturdyer than a ordinary barrel. A real fluted barrel serves the purpose of cooling the barrel quicker since it has a larger area of steel for the heat to radiate from. A consistent temperature in a real steel barrel means that you will have less problem with calculating the bullets trajectory when firing over large distances since the barrels temperature has much to do with how the bullet will act
