So I had a chance to handle my very first "souped up" sniper rifle and it was the JG Bar-10. The guy I carpooled with to OP: Bad Blood is basically the armorer for FilForce and was telling me all about it. He said it's exactly the same as a Tokyo Marui and since you're upgrading it, why pay for a more expensive skeleton.

I chrono'd it myself at 514 fps and the difficulty in pulling it back REALLY surprised me. He claimed to have hit an egg at 150' at the Enduro challenge. From the paces I put it though, I have no reason not to believe him. There is the occasional stray BB, but for the most part, I was confident I'd hit a man at 100 yards every time (save that one BB in 10 that goes who know where...)

What he said he did:
JG Bar-10 stock
An accurizing kit from someone that hand makes them in the Philipines.
The barrel in the kit was 6.00mm
Shoots Marushin Grandmaster .29's ONLY
Fire Fly bucking

I'll be building this kit because I really liked the rifle. It replicated the classic Remington 700 look very well and was light and functional. I won't throw the crazy spring in there. He said it shoots a little over 400 fps out of the box. He said if you sealed up the cylinder and piston and all that, as well as "put a bushing behind the spring or piston", it shoots over 450 fps. I didn't think the difficulty in cocking was worth the extra distance eeked out.

When he gets me the link to that Philipino guy, I'll pass it on.

It costs him about $200 to build his rifle and he sells them on eBay when he needs some extra cash for $500...

Sounds good to me.

Edit: This sounds like the kit and guy right here...

Additionally, here's a grouping review of his barrel. The only one that came in at less than an inch group size at 150ft.

I love my BAR-10!!! I have the Edgi tight bore barrel, 6.01mm. A nine ball bucking, and some other "specials".

Heck for a starter rifle it is really nice. I filled the stock with that expanding foam, and poured in some bbs for weight. So that added alot of weight so it isn't so light and "toyish".

With a little bit of love you can't beat this rifle.

You are correct on that a BAR-10 is about the only suitable clone to the TM. Unlike UTG L96's to a Maruzen, or anything else... But I have to call BS on him hitting an egg at 150' ... Unless he either shot a lot of rounds at it, or there was no wind and he still shot a handful of rounds at it.

As far as the accuracy goes in general though. Having the quick adjustable hop up units are more often than not the best hop up units out there. Which makes for the accuracy. I'm not sure if I would trust a 6.00mm barrel though, just because of the fact that the average bb is 5.97~ , which would mean that any piece of dirt, or even a human hair, or any fiber for that matter, could seriously mess up that barrel, or affect it's accuracy.

Although I have not personally handled the exact weapon your talking about, I can tell you that Oakey's VSR was amazingly accurate, without having some guy in the phillipines make a custom kit. So I'd say PM him if you want to talk VSR-10's / GSpecs.

I was surprised when he said it was a 6.00 because I always read about the tolerances issue of the BB's. He said that's why he only uses the Marushin Grand Master .29's. He said they were $20 for 500 which is pretty expensive and leads me to believe they're pretty high quality. Of course, there is always the occasional bb that goes crazy.

I think with the upgraded seal and cylinder and spring and all that, there's the possibility that even if the bb is slightly malformed, it will at least get shoved out the end. Then the next bb might be accurate. I'll ask him if I can do a no BS review of it sometime.

May I ask who you are talking to about all of this? I know mine is really accurate with the .25s that I am using right now. I plan on going heavier here next summer, but I have the rifle "tamed" right now and shooting like a dream. But never any accuracy like that.

The guy that I rode with up to the game. He goes by Hammer on the FilForce forums. That third link at the bottom of my first post shows a comparison of group sizes, and if the test is to be believed I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. With a 6.00mm tightbore and all upgraded internals the group size could theoretically be even smaller than the one from that linked test. In that test the 6.01 edGI barrel shot an average group size of 1.5" with the smallest being .75". EdGI also discusses the test a little bit in the 4 pages of discussion (which is mostly noobish and ridiculous).

Granted, I'm sure if you asked Hammer himself about the shot, he'd say it was one in a lifetime lucky. At the shoot he said he had it all zeroed and he shot and shot and shot and was getting pissed that his bb's were going all over the place and he couldn't figure out why after all that time and money dumped into the gun. Then one of the judges whispered to him that he was hitting the grass in front of him. He offset and hit it first shot.

Well.. Because I don't really know this guy, I can only take his word with a grain of salt. I mean, Oakey's rifle was pretty accurate, but my M14 SASS right now is hitting man sized targets at 50 yards all day long (150') and I'm sure if someone gave me a full standard mag I would have no problems hitting and egg, or a blank piece of paper, or something of that notion at the range.

The only problem here is that if there is one thing an airsoft gun is almost always going to be known for, it's the consistancy. And more often than not, airsoft replica's lack this. having a 6.00 barrel sounds good in theory, but you have to look at it this way. say a fiber, or a grain of dirt is stuck there (Average size of a grain of dirt.. Maybe 0.05mm-1.00mm?) and you shoot that bb, now.. The bb is going to come out of there, no questions asked, however, it's going to also push whatever is on it's path either to the side, or out with it, and more often than not, even when being pushed out, it'll have the friction of being moved at 550 something FPS against the brass, which would almost be similar in a larger effect to running by a BMW with a freshly cut key.

SGM .29's are very good quality, that is for sure something that I would not argue, but it's just too superficial. I'd say write up a review and maybe ask if you can borrow the guy's weapon for a day, or even have him just come over and do a sort of one camera one take video, where nothing is edited and everything is openly non-bias. That seems to be the only way to convince someone, or to actually deliver it to every airsoft sniper's house in the world so we can all shoot it once or twice and confirm it's rediculas grouping.
