The way I learned was picked up some old broken guns and began to take them apart while using mechbox.com as a guide. Long story short I made them work and learned how to do it. Now I actually make some spare money teching guns.
Its good knowledge to have. It is really rewarding and saves money to be able to work on, fix, and upgrade your own guns.
Look for boneyard sales or find a forum in your local area. You can get a broken M4 for $50 sometimes. The worst you can do is fix it!
