Learning how to upgrade AEG internals?

2509 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  tuxedopenguin
I would like to learn how to upgrade/repair/clean an aeg gearbox. Can anyone point me in the right direction to start learning how to do this? For me, personally, the best way to learn is to do it hands on. So should I buy a gun like this:

and just study the internals and such? Maybe even try upgrading it once I get the hang of things?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Do you have an AEG at the moment? And, what exactly do you want to learn? If you are just looking for the "how to" kind of stuff you can learn basically everything you need to know from here: http://www.mechbox.com/ As far as the 'what parts' kind of questions it's a lot of trial and error combined with reading reviews and threads. There is a lot to be learned from Vindis DMR guide as well as this website: http://www.airsoftmechanics.com

Hope that helps.
I learned by opening up my TM G36 and having parts fly all over the living room... and then going to mechbox.com

But in all seriousness, I would follow the advice of some of the others here and pick up a boneyard gun or even something someone is scrapping on craigslist. All you really need to learn with is a mechbox, there are little quirks with the actual disassembly of every gun, but those are simple enough to figure out as long as you take your time the first time you break it down.

Chances are that you can find a cheap/broken MP5 somewhere to learn on since the bodies on those break all the time, but they also have a V2 box like your KWA so it would be a good gun to learn on that probably wouldn't break the bank.
