Ok guys, heres the deal. I have conceptually designed an HPA rig (chamber, hop up, magazine feed etc.) that (I believe) would allow independent adjusting of the FPS and the ROF. The only thing that is keeping me from making solid drawings is that I don't know what body to put it in. I considered gutting an AEG, but that would pose too many issues since I am planning to integrate the hop up.
The parameters are this:
1. Relatively simple manufacture. (I'll probably be building this in my garage, I can handle wood working, but I'd like to limit intense metal work since the time I'll have around lathes and mills etc. will be very limited, although I have been considering building a vacuum table for sheet forming...)
2. The system will be capable of semi, full auto, so I'd like to model after a firearm that has those capabilities as well, for the sake of consistency.
3. I would like to use existing AEG magazines, I wouldn't mind modifying them to be shorter etc. but I don't want to have to design and build each mag to fid the gun. The only exception would be if there is one that has an internal box mag, then I could just build an internal magazine.
4. Personal preferences, I like bull pups, for size and maneuverability. With this engine in the gun it would be conceivable that it could be easily used for CQB as well as sniping fairly easily, so it would be awesome if I could design around that as well.
For reference here are some that I have considered and why I've moved away from them:
DTA SRS Covert:
DQd because it is a bolt action, and the "shotgun" feature that would be nice on an AR wouldn't be possible with this engin set up.
Barrett M95:
DQd because I laugh at people that bring these to games thinking that they are better than my ASR
Dragunov SVU:
DQd because its a little too complex
So I began to look at somewhat compact conventional rifles:
VSS:
Still debating on this one, barrel length might be short though.
So thats pretty much where I'm at. I'm just hoping that someone on here knows of some obscure awesome gun that might work that I haven't heard of yet. Thanks!
