When you upgrade to a metal kit, do you have you buy a metal outer barrel separately, or is it included with the metal kits?

Also is the hammer and everything metal, or does that need to be upgraded too?

Some brands include the outer barrel and sights(Nova, Prime) and some don't, like Guarder for that kit you'll have to buy a one piece outer barrel/chamber or one outer barrel and a chamber.

The sights are the only difference between MEU kits and 1911 kits!

So basically if I want a full metal TM MEU I need to replace:
-body
-outer barrel
-grip safety
-bushing
-spring housing
-spring guide
-recoil plug
-slide stop

I think ive read that the safety hammer and trigger are metal.

You don't need to replace all that...
If you have the TM MEU need the to replace
Body
Outer barrel
Recoil spring(optional but it adds to the feeling)

If you have the 1911 government you'll need the above plus ...
Novak style sights
Thump safety (optional, it will work with the Colt style safety)
Grip safety (optional if you want install a beavertale)
Main spring housing (MSH) (optional you can install a strait style MSH)
Hammer (optional but if you install a beavertale grip safety you MUST replace the hammer or it won't work with the stock safety!)
Trigger (optional)

The barrel Bushing, slide stop, recoil spring plug work fine both on the MEU and 1911 army, but you can replace with different style.
Note that Guarder parts needs some filling in order to fit, the best kits/parts IMHO are the Nova, I haven't seen one but I also like the Hurricane kits, plus these came with many additional bits like trigger, safeties and grips.
