Mouth protection?

After finding out that I can break brackets playing airsoft, I think it is time I get mouth protection. Any type you would recommend? Using a full face mask atm, but I guess it will be hard to use a scope when I get it.

You could cut off one side of the mask so you can use optics.
I use goggles so I can see the scope and a mesh mouth guard I got from evike. Before I got the mouth guard I just tied a bandana around my mouth and nose to keep the bbs away from my teeth.

So the mesh protectiong works? Will probably buy a mesh mouth gaurd and goggles when I roder the jg bar10.
All mesh guards seem to deform on BB hit. Also, shards, with the edges that implies, have been known to come through the mesh and cut. But, they have a nice breathability to them.

Ironfaces seem to work well with some people, especially with a ventilation drilled. They could also be cut down and modified.

This kind of mask http://www.sportsmans-depot.com/products/Crosman-Tactical-Airsoft{47}Paintball-Face-Mask.html has a flexible guard that allows a weld. The lens suck.

I use a balaclava with a rubber insert over the mouth, and I have been raked on it and have taken hits straight on his from hot guns on it. Neoprene will not work; again, BBs will break teeth through neoprene.

I am not sure if they really will work for airsoft, but a dentist should provide a custom-fit mouth-guard, upper and lower, made of some thin material. He should know if they will provide significant protection. I believe they are rated for heavy sports, so they probably would.

Normal sports mouth-guards are brittle under fire in my experience.

I have shot my mesh mouth guard point blank with my m170 spring bar10 to see how well the guard works. It didn't dent it and the mesh is fine enough that it didn't let any shards in. Although I have never seen a bb break on impact unless it's point blank with concrete. The mesh has a certain amount of elacticity to it so the bb will bounce off instead of smashing.

I have seen BBs break, my brothers friend uses supersonics and they always break.
Not to be a jerk, but tell him to get better bbs. Though I see your point. Like I said, the mask has a certain amount of elacticity so it's not like it's hitting concrete.

I have tried telling him, but my brother tells him that I am trying to get him to buy worse bbs.
The fact remains that shards of BBs are known to come through mesh, and I know personally that some mesh masks do dent under BB strikes, even at under 350fpsx0.20g. Caveat emptor or what.
Well I can tell you my mesh does not dent as I have said before. Other meshes must be made out of a different material. As for the bb shards, I can just line the mesh with some breathable cloth so the bbs can't get through. I've also been thinking about getting the iron face mouth guard because my mesh guard is sort of uncomfortable.
Mesh is good I know a good 30+ people who use it and have never had any problems.

But if you want something light and maneuverable buy this.:

I would have it but can't find non-ridiculous shipping to Irelands so I made one of my own design.
That looks really hot.

High quality mesh masks are the way to go. Bend to your face shape and they are comfortable.
I use goggles and a mesh face mask. I can personally say that some mesh masks do dent if shot from point blank with a 500fps gun and bbs will shatter and some shards will get through (using Javelin). With this said, I wear my motorcycle face mask under the mesh face mask and I have no issues.

From experience I can say those are not hot. In fact, they are thin, breathable and wick well. The only bad thing I can say is the OD one is not OD. It is army-man green.
I use ESS Thermal dual panes (I can fog anything up within seconds while playing) with Action Fans. My lower mask is a Brass-Guard BAT Mesh Mask, and I have taken 400+ FPS at point blank range (idiot kids entering buildings on full auto without looking) and not even felt it. I can't recommend this mask enough. Also, breathing is easy as it's mesh, and works just fine with my comm setup.

Hmmm, fair enough then. :)

Another plus for mesh is a hydration pack tube will fit under the mesh whilst maintaining protection.
