I think even if you are 6' you still wouldn't be able to use a 1 point sling successfully just for the fact that the gun is so long. I currently don't have a sling on my m24 but I also have a pistol with can be shot with one hand or I can set my rifle down while I clear a certain area.

Side note it could also be because I carry my rifle with my weak hand and have the holster on the strong hand side.
