I prefer to use the 1" wide cloth tape they use to wrap athletes joints in over electrical tape, for whatever reason i find it to work just a bit better, especially in barrels with a tapered bore

I use a 2-7x40 I believe, before that a 4x32 off of a .22 rifle. 3-9x32 should be just fine. biggest thing for me though was eye relief, which is why I changed scopes.
