fluting is purely cosmetic, some silencers make it a very little bit quieter, but they are usually for covering outter barrel

I'm gonna have to dissagree with ya there. On any of Livonia's rifles, his silencers has actually made them a fair bit quieter when out a few yards. Also, Damo's Phantom AUG is dead silent at 30 yards.
