Well tanoikobia (or something like that) made special bb with Little "wing's " at the back (writers block, cant get the word out). These special bb were used in the tanoikobias m40 which didn't have a hoppup cause the gun used shells. If someone would make bb like that they could be more stable, but would not fly far as normal bb, cause you can't use hoppup of course.
Evilfish nailed it. There've been several experiments with bullet shaped or finned bbs, and none of them have gone far because a hop up system is so much more effective. While theoretically not as accurate at close ranges, a hop up system has a much further range/is more consistent at range.

The only practical application of these bbs in airsoft is for close range target competitions (like Japan hosts). With no hop up and a nice tightbore, .5" groupings at 10m (the typical range for these) would be possible.
I have used the Tiberious first strike "paintball" my tube was a free sample it is amazing accurate and long ranged for a paintball. Issues with it are this. It is NOT field legal where I play as it is not sold by the fields. It can only be muzzle loaded in a normal paintball marker, There is a kit to retrofit Tiberious's magazine fed markers but first strike in a pistol is kind of silly and I don't own any of their rifles or carbines. First strike will not feed through a hopper or Q loader. first strike is expensive to buy and comes in 10 round tubes.

Honestly, I have left paintball (even milsim paintball) mostly behind me, airsoft is cheaper, better ranged and more accurate. but lets not go there.
Just wanted to share the info with you guys.

Im going for airsoft :)

IIRC the weapon of which you speak was banned as it was theoretically capable of firing real bullets....that only iirc ;)
