Hello,

Been running my VSR10 (pro model) the past couple of years and now looking to upgrade the Cylinder/Piston/Spring to something different.

From my research so far and availability of parts I’ve narrowed it down to the following…
  1. Piston: Stalker Scorpion or SCW
  2. Cylinder: Laylax PSS10 Teflon cylinder or Action Army Teflon Cylinder
  3. Cylinder head: Laylax PSS10 Damper cylinder head or MapleLeaf Stainless Steel Cylinder head
  4. Spring: Rapax 2J.

I aim to use these with the Maple leaf 428mm CJ barrel + AA hop up I’ve got installed already, my site limits are 500fps/2.31J, I typically run .45g BB’s and would like to get as much out of my rifle as possible, particularly around noise reduction, distance and accuracy.

Does anybody have any experience with these parts in a VSR and an opinion on compatibility and performance? Particularly around the Stalker and whether it’s worth the investment?

Looking for something that helps me make up my mind but I’m happy to listen to any other recommendations you may have.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Piston: Stalker Scorpion (Never heard of it but it will most likely be fine)
  2. Cylinder: Laylax PSS10 Teflon cylinder or Action Army Teflon Cylinder (Get the Action Army one. Same quality but cheaper)
  3. Cylinder head: Laylax PSS10 Damper cylinder head or MapleLeaf Stainless Steel Cylinder head (Action Army cylinder already comes with a cylinder head)
  4. Spring: Rapax 2J. (Not sure. Never used Rapex but other people seem to like them)

On the cylinder head put some 3mm Sorbothane 70D

Thanks 1tonne,appreciate it, I’m pretty sure I’m going to take your advice on the Action Army after pricing them up - I’m guessing there’s no real difference between the normal and twisted cylinders other than appearance?

For the SAP you don’t need to know much other than how to adjust everything. It’s really easy though, and works like a normal piston otherwise. EdGi has been around for a long time and you get quality with the price. I can’t speak for the scorpion, as I’ve never used it, however I’ve seen pictures of it being long af and you’ll never need to make your piston that long.

You do get quality from EdGi but it is overpriced. (Mainly because he charges way too much for freight)

1)No need to spend so much money for a weight modular Scorpion Piston. A NO just for being so expensive (110€) even packed with a spring guide in skirmshop. This piston sounds interesting in theory. I haven’t read anything about their performance. Or justifying the high price with higher performance than known cheaper pistons. You can adjust the weight on cheaper pistons by adding soldering material on the outside of the piston. Securing it with tape(1tonne’s way). If I remember correctly, I’ve read in this forum that SCW is the quietest piston and a good choice. Never tried it, I‘m using Laylax’s piston.
I must mention that Stalker’s products are very good, at least those that I bought. I am super satisfied!

2) I am using Laylax’s Teflon Cylinder. No issues, great quality, tested, is great! You can trust 1tonnes’s suggestion if you want to save some money.

3) Same as 2). I am using Laylax’s Cylinder Head…

4) Same… I used Laylax’s springs, SP170, SP150(in use) & SP130. All are great, high quality, a bit expensive, hard to loose their power. Never used Rapax but I’ve read good reports about them too.

I would actually recommend an O-ring piston over a cup piston as they seem to provide less friction surprisingly, which improves FPS and lets you use a weaker spring or less spacers.

I've used Angel Custom, stock CYMA, stock Double Bell, stock ASG, and MASADA, with the Angel Custom being my favorite, but not by too much, MASADA is pretty good too.
I recommend Laylax if you can get it for a reasonable price of less than $50, or SCW, but Action Army O-rings usually tend to be small, and finding a perfect O-ring is quite annoying since it just tends to be.

The best option imo is a Lambda complete cylinder set with diy piston weights and a PDI or RAPAX spring unless a decent spring comes with it, or a PDI cylinder, spring guide, and cylinder head, with a before mentioned piston.
Or the cylinder set from Airsoftguns.Europe thats a Bore Up for 60 euro that just needs a spring.
Idk if they ship to the UK, but if they do then I'd recommend that the most.
Sadly they don't ship to the US, so I couldn't get one and ended up giving up on a springer I have.

What other upgrades have you install to your rifle? Just being curious…
I have to agree with you about the stalker, it’s pricey and I’ve gone with the SCW in the end and placed an order! I was curious as to whether anybody on here had experience with them as reviews are few and far between.

Other upgrades wise, I’m currently running a ML Crazy Jet 428mm, AA hop up, ML Autobot Bucking, Airsoft Pro zero trigger. I’ve got a bunch of barrel spacers in there, Airsoft pro bolt handle and I’ve used some foam they use in recording studios to fill the stock with too.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me, the thing that’s been tricky with a lot more of the higher end parts is stock in the UK, a lot of things have sold out right now! I managed to place an order for an SCW piston though which I’m pleased with… once I’ve got everything and fitted it I’ll update with how it’s performing vs how it is now.

Thought I’d update with the following testing I’ve done since fitting the new parts for anyone who’s interested.

  • AA Teflon Cylinder
  • Sorbo Pad
  • SCW piston and air brake
  • Rapax 2J+ light pull spring

All in all, I need to do some more work to get it within the site limits (2.31J and 333FPS on .45s) as it’s still too hot. In two minds about solder to weight the piston or whether to cut the spring… will update again later.
