I have had great luck with stock JG gears using a 150 sp. If shimmed correctly they should last a long time as long as you are limiting your fire rate to single shot only. If you have a 150 and are burst firing then the chance for breakdown is a lot greater and high torque gears with a different tooth ratio should be considered mandatoryIn my opinion the weakest link will be the pinion gear on the motor and should be a high quality aftermarket one, I prefer deep fire pinion gears personally.

As far as the initiall question the higher the voltage the better so a 9.6 in conjuction with a high torque motor should work fine. I personally wont drop below a 11.1 20c lipo for my DMR as that has yielded me very successful results

edit: referring to deep fire products

Their pistons are great have the titanium toothed one in my dmr right now, as well as air nozzles I use the plastic opposed to aluminum ones as they are o-ringed for maximum airseal. I am a fan of their barrels as they are stainless steel which I prefer and they are affordable. I personally have only scene more acurate barrels like pdi and edgi but for the price they are very good. not the most accurate but I get 6-8 inch groupings at 200 ft with one of my type 96's that has a deepfire barrel in it.
