Good guide for the newbies.

FPS - Gets TOO much credit by new players,
Occasionally TOO little credit by experienced players.

A high FPS decreases accuracy under the same conditions as a lower FPS (Talking indoor tests etc. here)

E.G.
500fps .25gbb @ 100ft indoor will be less accurate/consistent than 350fps .25g bb A100ft indoor.

Ok how in the heck did I miss this thread!!!!

I am right there with you cheese with the FPS myths and everything going on anymore. To many companies are trying to say that the higher the FPS the better the rifle.

This of if from this point of view...... a rifle shooting 300 fps will shoot great and be less ammo dependent than a faster shooting rifle. And if you get ammo that has some nasty air bubbles in it, you wont get as bad of a wobble.

A faster shooting rifle, will yes get the bb there quick, but if there are any kind of imperfection in the bb, this will be drastically apparent when shot. The wobble you will see much much more, and you will only have a few brands of ammo that you will be able to use.

That and with a higher fps rifle you will have a much louder smack, where as a slower fps rifle you can get just about silent. That and you don't have to worry about the spring tearing apart your internals ;)

I have done many silencing mods, and even though it will never get as quiet as a low powered rifle, they help. I use the higher fps because if an opponent is moving or is about to move, you want to minimise how long it takes the bb to get there. The lower fps setup will only get you so many yards of range.

For older rifles or cheaper ones, you really have to upgrade your cylinder body along with the spring. Iv'ed managed to tear down 2 stock cylinders of my AGM L96 before upgrading to EdGI's brass cylinder. The thing is the gun feels heavier now but the cocking action now feels more stable and solid.

I tried testing the difference in groupings between my 550 fps m170 spring and an old 375 fps spring (don't know what kind it is) at 100 feet. I also tried using some crossman .25g bbs with lots of off center air bubbles along with my bioshot .3g bbs with no air bubbles at all. With the 550 fps and bioshots I could hit a soda can 8/10 times. With the crossmans I could hit it 5/10 tries. With the 375 fps setup and bioshots I could git it 9/10 times and with the crossmand I hit it 7/10 tries. I tested each of the four setups three times in the prone position and got the average. (Pretend this is a new paragraph. My enter key broke.) As you can see, it benefited the bbs with air bubbles more than the bbs without bubbles, like Woogie's theory says. Even with the bbs without bubbles, I still got better consistency at short range. I wasn't able to test at longer range, but I'm sure the results would be even better. (Pretend this is another new paragraph.) P.S. Sticky this thread!

I've noticed that it says an alternative to getting a TM vsr10 hop up chamber you can shim the stock one. The only difference in the hop up (besides size) of my agm vsr10 is one additional screw to hold it together. So I ask ( noob with his hand out) is there somewhere I can get a guide on how to shim this? I've heard that you shim the hop up arm. Where at? Also I want a new hop up bucking... You guys are making me jealous with your nineballs. Do you think it would fit? Any logical reply would be greatly appreciated, I know you guys aren't familiar with my budget brand.

I think most cylinders are okay (assuming proper bolt pull technique), but if yours breaks, then obviously you should replace it. :p

Juggler: I am glad someone else has now posted results corroborating this besides those of us who already believed in it. :yup:

That is true. Fuzzy has a guide in his video review post in the rifles and parts review section *I think*.

I don't know about the AGM VSR and its compatibilities, though I don't think it is 100% VSR compatible. If not, then you can't use a ninebal, unless they have one in the AGM VSR shape.

Hmm. Does any have a old crappy vsr10 bucking? Maybe some one could send me one via mail. I could try and fit it/ mod it. It wouldn't cost more than the stamp to help me and others learn....

I was just doing it mythbusters style. While the science is all there, you still need to test it. I don't think there was an actual controlled test posted on here before, was there?

Bump. Even if this doesn't get stickied, which it should get stickied, I just want to make sure everyone sees this thread.
