im thinking of buying the mauser sr pro tactical wondering if its a good buy will be my first sniper

First up... ITS A SNIPER RIFLE! Secondly, its just a Warrior 1 in a space gun body, so go look for threads concerning that rifle if you need more information on it. It is upgradable but only certain parts, generaly CA M24/APS 2/ APS 96 parts fit it. I had a warrior once, bought it cheap didnt like it, so fitted my VSR in the body My mates got the version your looking at ( its a G22 in europe) and thinks its the shizzle, I personaly think its just an entry level rifle, which it sounds like your after

The mechanics of the rifle are pretty much identical to the competing UTG MK96 and can even use the same magazines.

That's what it says on ShortyUSA's description. I guess I'm not fully educated on this, but my understanding was that the UTG MK96 was somehow different from the Well Warrior I.

Both crap for the most part. Decent for plinking and backyard games with poor kids, but the second you play with real airsofters, your rifle is useless...which is why I'm selling my Well Warrior I.

There are lots of replicas in that price range. I strongly recommend to new players that you start with a AEG, but since this is a airsoft sniper forum. You can usually find a used TM VSR 10 or a jg Bar 10 (a VSR10 clone) for close to your budget, But beware that sniping in airsoft is not a budget endeavor. Most of us have many many times your budget into our replicas. Some even have your budget in just the trigger mechanism! All of these expensive upgrades for accuracy and velocity are necessary to have even a small advantage over the average slightly upgraded AEG. There are lots of threads on this forum and a few others, spend some time going over some old posts in eash section. The information you are looking for is here, you just got to search it out. If you have a particular question that you can not find in a old post then, feel free to ask, just PLEASE SEARCH FIRST

Well, you're WAY over paying with Shorty's USA. At Evike, the same UTG guns are about $100 less. And for $100-some-odd you can pick up a TM VSR-10, or it's clone, the Bar-10. The JG Bar-10 has become the defacto starter rifle since it's fully compatible with anything designed for the VSR. Roll that extra $100 into high quality BB's, a tightbore, and maybe a quality bucking. More than anything else, those will improve your accuracy. You may not be shooting dimes, but your groups will be outstanding in comparison to that POS.

thanks. I think im going to start lookin at the bar. I heard you can get it up to 500 fps out of the box, sounds pretty nice.

FPS is meaningless with out accuracy. 50% greater fps does not translate to 50% greater range. With a higher fps with .20 gram BBs you may have small increase in range but what it really allows you to do is use heavier BBs like .29/.30 which are more accurate and resistant to environmental harassment at similar velocity to the AEG firing .20 gram BBs back at you. Yes, with careful application of Teflon tape and trimming the air brake a little you could reach 500fps with .20 stock. However I suggest you plan on a tightbore, hop up bucking and high quality hardened trigger sears and a M150 spring off the get go. This is in my opinion a great start. For alternatives, spend some time in the VSR section of the forum.
