DIY R-hop Nub Tutorial

Random info that was taken out of threads for ease of access:
- The raw r-hop tubing is from McMaster-Carr and is serial# 5041K54. I feel no guilt in telling people this because HS5 sells perfectly cut patches, this is just raw tubing, and you may never get cuts as perfect as he does. That and as far as I know we only think this is the exact tubing he uses.

I did not make any categories because I don't really see a way to categorize these threads. They are all talking about how to use or install the r-hop, so I left it just as a list.

Now after searching through the forum for a while, I didn't exactly look at the threads too closely, so if I missed some threads or if I should remove some, just let me know. If you guys think I should change around the title/subject for a thread, just let me know. Even if it's something as nitpicky as the ordering, if you guys tell me I will not get offended, it's all to make this thread better.

There is a guy I play with who has filed for a patent on a system he developed. It takes the R even a step further. He and I have discussed it at great length and what he does really works but takes more skill to do than an R. One of my buddies has this system in his gun, he shoots 250FPS but can easily get to 200' accurately.

All of these systems are a huge step in the right direction.

Hi to all of you,

After a lot of reading i decided to buy nad install a Zkit myself, as here in Greece i couldn't find anyone professional to install it. In the process i managed to ruin 2 Out of the 3 rhops and did a little imperfect intallation of the final one, in regard to matching externaly hte patch and the barrel. In one point i took off a lot of material. Anyway i tested my gun and the results are somewhat peculiar.

TM SOCOM stock, 310fps, PDI raven 6.01mm 364mm, TM bucking with nub removed

with KSC 0.25gr i managed to hit a man shape target at 60-65m but with rather average grouping.

with Madbull 0.30gr i had the same range but with a better grouping but not as i was hoping.


So my question is that you get the same range no matter what bb weight you use? My range and grouping is acceptable? with stronger fps will i get more range or is irelevant? thanks in advance.

You could get a bit more range and tighter groupings I'd say 75-80m are pretty realistic with your setup.

change your BB to something higher quality and heavier. GoldenBall .32's should give you a bit more range. also redo your patch. Its a pain but a good R-hop install is key to long range and accuracy

@vipergr- The fps (past a certain point, about 300fps) won't do anything besides get the bb to the target faster. People think more fps means more momentum, but you run out of backspin much faster than you run out of momentum.

Well you did better than I did when I first tried installing r-hops. I had to order a second batch before I got it down.

This is a little disheartening... And the fact that I don't have a vice doesn't help either... Looks like I'm gonna have a hard time..

On a similar note I did something very different in my new barrel.

I figured I would try something with less change of issues since I was making my barrel from a bare tube. I needed to build up the back end where the barrel enters the breech because the OD is so small. I took a small piece of carbon tubing and split it length wise. I then removed about 1-2mm more on one side. When this was slipped over the inner barrel I had a nice gap between the sides of the carbon tube. I then cut a slit 12mm long running along the barrels length and centered between the carbon edges. I used a very fine dremel wheel. I then opened up the slit just a bit so I had a 1-2mm slit. The gap between the edges of the carbon tube is 5-6mm.

Now I slid a very smooth a slippery carbon rod into the end of my barrel. It should fir nicely as in not real tight but not sloppy.

Spread OoogooOO over the area making sure to press it down into the slit you made. Now put a slit drinking straw over the top and spress to give a nice smooth finish.

When it is cured carefully remove the carbon rod and the straw. Slide your sanded bucking over the end and you are done.

I did this and I believe I have it perfect. There is just enough resistance that it takes me two breaths to blow a BB down the barrel.

If I need more hop I will do it again with a smaller carbon rod. If I need less I will use a tighter fitting rod.

My thoughts were this removes the issues of having edges down in the barrel. Also as long as your slot is straight your hop will also be dead straight.

It took me much longer than it took other people. I was like a worst case scenario, having to order more. If you try an r-hop, you will most likely do a much better job than I did lol.

It sounds like you just did what is called the j-hop. I'll search for the thread and add it to the list later, but it's basically taking caulk (or oogoo) and spreading it over the hop window to make an r-hop look-alike. I could be wrong but I think Vindicareasassin (think I spelled that right) mentioned at some point that he is still doing testing with the j-hop, but I couldbbe wrong. In any case, I'm curious to know how well it works.

My hop does not have a normal window. The contact patch is very long and very narrow running the same direction as the barrel.

It does work VERY well !!

A long narrow patch sounds like a good idea, but it also sounds harder tobadjust the pressure.

Have you tested accuracy with it yet?

I just finished my first trial at r-hopping.. With everything installed, there is a bit of resistance, meaning I didn't sand off enough from where it contacts the BB, but after ~2 hours to that point, I decided to fix it up tomorrow.. haha

Juggler, we are getting 4-6" groups at 160'. I had no problem hitting my son at well over 300'. We plan to measure the distance later but it is a long way.

It does take some tuning to get the pressure right. Because the patch is so long it takes very little pressure to make it work. I applied more or less pressure my wrapping teflon tape under the bucking. The bucking is now being used only as an air seal for the power tube.

With .28's they seem to carry forever and .43's shoot even straighter. I will make some barrels with this hop system for you guys to play with.
