So, just an open thread to talk about distraction devices. I've been thinking of what I can use in the field that is small, practical, simple and cost effective.

Ideally, I would love to create some sort of remote device that could have fuses/detonators etc that are cheap enough to use once... but every solution I can think off along those lines would have to be expensive and that makes it non disposable. :( I know that making devices that use long, delayed fuses would be far easier, but that type of application has severe limitations in that case, as timing and adaptation are key in warfare.

For example, I would love to make a remote controlled firecracker detonator, or something to trigger a good sized smoke bomb, for example. These would be great to deploy if the enemy is close to your hide, for example, or to lure them into an advantageous position for you or your team, or to cause confusion/hesitation.

In any case, go ahead and share your ideas if you would, and thanks.

Thunder B set away from you with a really long string tied on the pin? Stupid, but its the best I got....

I've kind of wanted to toy around with lighting a smoke grenade with model rocket motor ignitors. Only problem is, all smoke grenades have to be pull pin on my field.

I used to make smoke bombs out of saltpeter sugar and some other ingredients I won't list in case it isn't allowed. The smoke it makes is perfectly safe, but I still wouldn't recommend just breathing it in because of oxygen deprivation, although the same thing happens with helium and look how many people do that. It is activated by some form of detonator or flame, but I created a pull pin using a match and some cut up match ignitor (the stuff on the side of the match box). Won't go into how that is made either.

I could probably put the entire thing in a case so it is completely safe, and I could hook up the pull pin to a trip wire. This thing makes as much smoke as one of those smoke bombs the army uses.

Oh juggler, the fun we could have. I'd love to be able to bust out a massive smoke bomb to cover my retreat!

Hell, what about a small all-weather cd player, run on batteries with the volume set to max? It's crude, but you could cover your movements by activating it via remote, and have some nice tunes.

How about a cheap plastic aeg gearbox set to either a remote or long wire.. Have it set up on a small platform and when someone gets close, like you said. Distract em! Hit the button, they spin in defense and you pop em in the tail or book.. Whatevers the best for the moment.. Cheap plastic gearboxes are pretty cheap and would make them think they are getting shot at. Hahaha..

I actually still have a plastic gearbox/piston and battery from an old 20$ AEG that broke a good two years ago. Just tested it and the nozzle to the piston is broken but the gearbox itself is working fine after some lube. I could set it up to a rocker switch instead of the momentary switch currently on it and have a trip wire running to it. I could also glue the pin that allows for full auto down so instead of a single shot it will keep firing and cause an even greater distraction. Would only take me about 20 minutes to do and I have everything on hand. Great idea.

Sweet! Glad it was a good idea,hahaha.. do you need a piston? I have a stock jg/E1 piston if you need. I dont know if it is a match up but I had a spare plastic gearbox from an old crosman Ak and it was the same internals as the metal gearboxed Ak's.. Well same size and shape cause the gears were plastic,lol.. but all was interchangable.

Edit.. Do you guys remember putting cards in the spokes of our bikes as kids? Lol.. Could use that concept too.. Get a
motor, make a flap connect to the pinion gear and when you hit the button the motor slaps something and would even sound like an aeg but way way cheap!! And you wont need as many parts.

When I say broken, I mean the body pf the gun was pretty mutilated my my neighbor's dog and most of the internals were broken. The barrel was snapped in half, though it was aluminum so I don't really care. I am actually pretty surprised the gearbox is mostly in one piece. The gun was 20$ from dicks sporting goods. A new piston isn't going to help...

how about the cheap aeg box like someone mentioned, a cheap remote control car, use the transmitter, and battery.

break the remote in half and use only the forward switch to engage the motor making a fake shooting sound.

or even better:

get a box, a stick, and a piece of string. prop the box up with the stick and attach one end of the string.

place a bag of cool ranch doritos in the box and take the other end of string with you and hide.

now just wait until some one comes and takes the bait. capture their hand so they cant shoot and get em.

Bingo...

It is really funny - after a game, one guy was complaining how a ghillied sniper wasn't calling his hits. I showed him the black burlap and asked if that was what he was shooting at. He said yes, to which I answered - "That was made of leaves, buddy". He was soooooo pissed off... Everyone else just laughed our asses off though.
