Alright guys, I finally got some time to tell you about me and my gun.

As you can tell from the thread title, I do own what used to be an A&K SVD. It is a spring operated, full metal replica of the famous SVD Dragunov. I got this rifle some two years ago and ever since it went through some serious modifications.

Here is a list of upgrades I installed in my gun over the years. Note, that many parts had to be custom made, as there are no alternatives.
SVD Dragunov: ---------------------- USD 100
Hop-up bucking: --------------------- USD 6
Guru Airsoft Tight bore barrel : ------- USD 75
Low-cap magazines: ----------------- USD 120
Steel piston catch: ------------------ USD 25
AirsoftPro piston: -------------------- USD 40
Custom made trigger mechanism: ----- USD 150
M 180 Prog. Wind. spring: ------------ USD 50
Custom made cylinder with nozzle: ---- USD 80
Custom made spring guides: ---------- USD 75
Guru Custom 629 mm 6.01 barrel: ----- USD 94
Custom made piston: ----------------- USD 100
Hop-up bucking: ---------------------- USD 6
Custom made ultralight piston: -------- USD 150
Custom made piston catch: ----------- USD 64
Custom wound M195 spring: ---------- USD 150
Allen screws: ------------------------ USD 10
AirsoftPro SVD hop-up unit: ----------- USD 85
AirsoftPro Set of latches: ------------- USD 25
AirsoftPro hop-up bucking: ------------ USD 15
PSO-1 Optic Sight: ------------------- USD 229
This amounts to a total of 1559 dollars.
There might be some more, but I am not including that in the list.

You might want to ask why I decided to get this gun and the reason is simple. I am a part of a re-enactment&mil-sim team recreating Russian modern era paratroopers and as a sniper, this was pretty much my only option. Why not get an electric one, are you asking? I do not believe in AEG sniper rifles. They do no require skill. You just press the trigger and hope to hit. It lacks the thrill of hunting.

Here are some picture of the gun and of me with the gun. Quality may vary.

There are some more pictures right here.
This is a mix of some older and newer photos. I do have the Flora camouflage pattern in the older ones and the all-new Pixel in the new pics.

Considering that the SVD is in fact Semi-auto I dont understand your reasoning behind not going AEG, not bashing your choice by anymeans. Most critics considers the Dragunov as a DMR and not a true sniper rifle to begin with. That aside, I love my Tigr conversion ;)
If you want an easier bolt pull, you might want to get/make a piece that you glue on the old bolt, making it longer and stiffer, thus making cocking easier.

Yes, in real life, the gun is semi-automatic. However, in airsoft I still am a fan of single shot rifles :)
Actually, the SVD was originally built as a DMR. When the Mosin-Nagant went out of service, the only rifle capable of substituting it as sniper rifle was the SVD. Given the acronym SVD - Snaiperskaya Vintovka Dragunova some think that it is a sniper riflefrom the starters. But it was meant to be used as fire support weapon and extend the reach of the unit to some 1000 meters.

But, it started as a DMR.

Thanks for the advice, but I do have enough strength to use the gun for days.

Airsoft Pro sells special bolt handles for that too.
Photo's are great! Hope you enjoy it!

My Tigr holds its own side by side with any bolt gun. But then I reload >.> Most people just throw in some Bulgarian or Chinese 147 grain FMJ and call it good. Mine shoots "7N1" fairly well, but my Nosler Ballistic tips still outperform it.
Well, unlike many other guns the SVD (and the AK, by the same token) will swallow almost everything.

Ever got around trying the 7N14? Man, that thing would turn an elephant inside out and back.
LOL, Ive never seen an AK or SVD that wasnt handloaded shoot under 3 MOA, maybe a Saiga or Vepr, but ive never shot either of those. You have to understand I dont own a rifle I hunt with that isnt touching holes at 500 meters.

From my understanding 7N14 is rediculously hard to find, and even then, good luck trying to get anything from Russia into the US.
I have seen some M4 rifles jam on low quality ammunition, yet have seen far less AKs do the same.

It is only available to military personel and still I had to go through hell and back to get them outside of the army (it is used by Czech snipers - I am not claiming to be one). A very interesting round.
Oh, I mean accuracy shooting, not malfunctions. If the 7N14 works anything like the 7N1 Id rather not get shot by it. Ive seen what it does when it goes through ballistic gelatin, and also what it will do to steel plate ie: go clean through 1 inch of cold rolled steel. Besides M16 derivatives are so high maintanence it isn't even funny, best thing they ever did was junk the gas impingment system and go to a short stroke piston.
The 7N14 has a heat treated steel core. That thing is capable of penetrating the Russian heavy titanium bulletproof vests. I have witnessed a 1.08 MOA shooting with this ammo. Great shooter.
It looks very nice! Internally seems amazing as well! Nice Job!

Shifty you posted in your upgrades list that you have a custom cylinder & head, Do you know of any that are compatable with the A&K SVD on the market, I have searched but due to lack of details on the sites (AS-PRO, AS-St8ion, AS-Atl, Asplat, Hit, so yea Quite a few sights) or the problem may be my lack, as I have just recently began AirSoft this year 2013, I have only ran a few games but internally knew that long range was my zone.
In case you didnt notice, the last post was OVER a year ago. Therefore this is a dead thread. Posting comments in a topic thats even just a few months dead is against pretty much any airsoft forum on the entire internet.

Please, from now on, look at the date of the last post. Thanks buddy.
I am now upgrading my A&K SVD and wondered if you could send me the links to hop up unit and bucking. I can't seem to find it on the net
I am looking to upgrade my hope unit on my A&K (this will be my first mod), and also replace my M100 spring with a M120.

Can you point me in the direction of a good hop up unit please. Have you ever used R-hop?
1.-dont double post please.
2.-people dont like when you post on dead threads (you already did so it doesnt matter anymore).

Precision A&K SVD HopUp chamber - AirsoftPro.cz

There is the link of the hop up unit for the svd, it is good quality and they ship everywhere and fast, so you should hurry and buy it quick.
Maybe you could also get a cylinder head, a piston and a catch. Then you wont have to worry if you decide to use a stiffer spring.
I hope it is useful for you.
Why did you bring up a dead thread?
And you can edit your post instead of double posting!
