Silencer Question

1503 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  fishstick600
I was just talking to someone at an airsoft store about the upgrades I'm doing to my L96. When I told him i was going to add a silencer his response was "How long is your barrel". When i told him he said I would need a longer barrel because the air infront of the BB would cause turbulence and innacurate shots. Is this true? I really hope not because that will mean I have to either find a flash hider or buy a shorter outer barrel.

not sure about a universal truth but, I actually found my gun shot better with no silencer on it at all. It was better with foam in it then empty. It could have been something specific to my gun though although I did try it with 3 barrels.
I don't know about that. I have a silencer on my gun and it fires accurately enough.

EDIT: Here is a link for ya :http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=25227
What he was saying is the inner barrel needs to almost reach the end of the silencer. I have bigger issues right now tho. While adjusting my hop up suddenly my gun lost range for no reason. Took it apart and as i was re-assembling I noticed the screw that holds the external barrel to the stock stripped(or the aluminum hole it screw's into stripped). So im just gonna pay someone to look at it.
Tore the bucking and losing air pressure I suspect.

Sounds like an "AEG'er" trying to talk "sniper" some people like to use a silencer to cover an extended barrel. If the barrel runs the length of the silencer it will not silence the rifle! Read in the tall grasses "silence your gun post" theres some cheaper ways to be quiet!

Sucks to hear about the gun damage

Yay promoting my post!

And yeah gn damage makes me cry.
I ordered a new outer barrel with a 333mm inner barrel length with a 8.25 inch silencer to cover the inner barrel. Now I wasn't thinking about barrel vibration when i ordered it so I have a question. Will the 4 barrel spacers I have keep the inner stable? If not will I be able to wrap some electrical tape around the tip of the inner barrel to stabilize it in the silencer?
