Hello Airsoft Sniper Community,

I loved to hear what secondaries players are using when restricted to a 100+ Feet minimal engagement range. Pistol? Super pistol? Micro-SMG? SMG? How and where do you sling\pouch it? Ever been outgunned by an AEG just inside the MER? Love to hear the experience and guidance in this area.

Thanks!

Common secondary weapons

Pistol category
Silent = mk23
Full auto = Glock 18 or aap01
Ultimate design your own = hi capa

Aeps aren't going to be good for 100ft

AEG
MP5k
M4 stockless and stubby
Anything short with a V2/v3 gearbox really

Also most gbb smgs would fit the role like an mp7/9 or Mac10/11.

Honestly Airsoft is a game that only you can decide what works for you as it's about fun.

Now I'm not someone for silent secondaries as UK gamemodes mean once the enemy team is close it's time to fall back anyways so, full fire power it is.

Do plan on an aap01 build in the future to have a different option to the hi capa.

I like belt holsters for all small weapons but I am tall and find they generally work best.

Have run an M4 on a single point quick release sling on my back, when in position can lay it down next to me or against a tree.

And yes once an enemy is in med I have had pistol Vs AEG and whilst odds are ok they aren't in your favour at all still.

My pistols are:
Stock aap-01
Novritsch SSP18
Novritsch SSP2

I have struck targets at 150ft (though 120ft is where it stops becoming comfortable) with all of them, but the limitations of a pistol vs a rifle can make fighting AEGS in the hands of a not skill-less opponent very challenging. I try to only find myself needing to use them while clearing buildings, where the odds are in my favor. Out in the open, I win these engagements with the element of surprise, waiting for a closer shot, and a bit of luck. I have my BASR’s set up as scout rifles so that I can play a little more aggressively, so when I switch to my sidearm it is typically a decision I am making to maintain an advantage (rather than being in response to realizing I have lost an advantage).
If an AEG squad has me pinned down in my MER, then it probably isn’t going to end well, but that’s what grenades are for!

Anything will work so long as it is comfortable and you’re having fun! I find a pistol sidearm to be the most practical and efficient for my play style and would recommend any reputable GBB pistol supported by the manufacturer and the aftermarket. Most of them will do the job!

If I didn't care about sound, I'd get the AAP01 as the lighter and more compact the gun is, the better. Accuracy on those can be as good as an MK23 after upgrades by the sounds of it, so I'd go for one of those.

The AAP shoots lights-out, to be honest - at least as nicely as my Mk23 with Edgi 6.00 and MR hop rubber + TDC.

I've currently got a little selection of:

Novritsch SSP2
AAP-01
Mk23
MP5k

They all cover my needs from zero to my self-imposed MED of 40m, none of them are hugely upgraded so ultimately.......run whatever you're comfortable with. Some very notable points from RS above...

I agree with these generally, and although I do like to try to be that annoying sneaky twat with a Mk23 and stay hidden, sometimes you just gotta start blasting so I either carry a Mk23 + AAP set to full auto, or a Mk23 + MP5k, again with the option of full auto. Or I might carry just one pistol in which case it's the SSP2 as it simply works and it's still shiny in my mind.

There is a little niggle in the back of my mind telling me that I want a gas shotgun but I can generally ignore those temptations :)

Thanks for that advice, I'll have to check those out! Currently using one of 3 guns, Mac 11 CO2, BBG 45 w/ extend mags, and CO2 Makarov. All have their pluses and minuses but really overall looking for improvement in range and volume of fire.

My field just allowed full auto for SMG class weapons within the last two weeks. I historically ran a KWA 93R which was tons of fun. I retired that because the maintenance investment got pretty bad, and I was running a Cybergun 1911A1 in silver I picked up purely for the trades. Turned it into Vincent Vega's piece. But I'm thinking of picking up the MP9 GBB; seems like a beast.

I agree with this. I run an SSP18 and find it more than sufficient for any situation where I can't/don't use my rifle. My brother has an SSX23 and pretty much only runs his AAP-01, as the SSX23/Mk23 is kinda crappy.

My brother has done a lot of upgrades on his AAP-01, although has had constant trouble with it for that reason. Other than my hop-up not staying set (until I fixed it with an o-ring), I've not had any issues with my SSP18.....I posted a 1-year review on my YT channel if you are interested. I'd go with the SSP18 over the AAP-01 for a number of reasons personally - it is a bit more expensive, but I'd argue mine still shoots better than my brother's AAP-01 even after he's spent more money on it. FWIW, I find my SSP18 puts a lot of AEGs to shame, unless the weather is cold enough the mags freeze up.

What kind of range do you typically see with your SSP18?

Yeah, I had a Raffica which was very much like the KWA at least in weapon type, but always gave me some issues. I have a nice 1911 with carved out slide but I don't see the distance I need from that one.

I gotta check out this AAP-01, a lot of snipers are recommending it. Surprising range for low FPS pistol, but I know with right hop-up, bucking and barrel you can get the job done.

I've always found that lugging around another rifle, even a UMP or P90 (I have those too), kind of slows you down, how do you carry those weapons - slung to the side or back? Some kind of holster attachment point?

Hey guys,
Just made this account but I'd love to share what I use.

I used to just run a AAP but I recently bought a SSX23 and have been loving that. The AAP is nice but its loud.

But there are still occasions that I will still carry the AAP as well as the SSX In short games/ops where I like to run my full stealth kit but throw a TAPP (m4) adaptor on my AAP. Most of my team runs M4s so I have access to a spare M4 mag or two if needed. I hardly need to push a OBJ with them as I am normally in a overwatch or recon position. There are times where I have taken on a designated killer roll that keeps me inline with the riflemen. So I like having that spare firepower on my hip while I can stay silent with the SSX under my arm.

With that out there I can say that in total of times I actually had the AAP work in my favor is minimal. In reality I probably just carry it to look cool.

I would like to suggest that you don't count out a AAP though. The toggle for full auto and semi is super continent, the out of box performance is acceptable, and the intro price is lower than most other side arms of that level. Also a lot of aftermarket parts are available to make it much closer to that PDW style.

At $99 in the area where I live, it does look much more appealing compared to the $199 SSP18, or any other Glock really. Obviously not the same look, but performance and price wise I'd say the AEP is likely better, as even if you break stuff you have $100 left over to buy parts, or even a new gun. With both real and fake inflation the AAP looks more and more inviting compared to most other platforms.

I agree fully for someone looking to grab a good gun for cheap to meet the requirements for MEDs, I don't think it can be beat. Yes there are better and obviously more expensive guns out there but if barebones the AAP is strong.

I am still partial to the SSX23. There is something about getting someone in the back with it and watching them accuse their team of shooting them.

Thanks for that advice! I'm seeing the Novritsch series of pistols are made specifically with Airsoft Snipers in mind. I have to admit they look really sweet, price aside. But I guess the point of Novritsch series of weapons is to get something that is "pre-upgraded". So if you account for the upgrades you would like to make the price is reasonable.
