Yes it will get caught in branches and honestly it isn't great for concealment IMO. At airsoft ranges it doesn't look natural and you can see it in amongst the vegetation, giving away the wearer's position. Usually that only works at milsims where you may be observing a target well beyond airsoft gun range, therefore the enemy can't make it out.

I'd recommend you make a ghillie veil like this:

The vail covers your face, which is the #2 most giving away sign, right after movement. The whole trick is that you can see though it, but no one can see your face. It's more like a really effective face camouflage than a silhouette-breaking kind of stuff.

So it's not comparable to a ghillie hood (and honestly, claiming the veil will get caught in branches and then recommending a ghillie is pretty bogus to say at least)

You could use it to somewhat cover your whole body and even some of your gun when needed, but unless you have plenty of branches and such between you and your target, the resulting green blob is not natural at all, and easily identifiable for someone actively looking for a sniper. Some veils have camouflage patterns applied, and that helps too, but still far from and effective standalone camouflage solution.

Just use it around your neck, apply it over your face when needed, and complement it with some silhouette breaking stuff. A Viper Hood kind of setup with local vegetation would be my #1 choice.

I would only consider it as my primary camouflage mean when mission demands a really lightweight, fresh and high speed kind of setup.

The reason I suggested the ghillie veil is because in my mind, its benefits outweigh its cons in comparison to the scarf veil above. Yes, the ghillie can get caught in vegetation, but the concealment is so much better. and you can build it to cover the face if needed. Whereas the scarf will also get caught, it is also ineffective for concealment at airsoft ranges.
The Viper hood that you suggested is the same as the ghillie veil I mentioned. (unless you are saying that your hood doesnt use burlap?).

I recently bought one which also has a pattern on it (flecktarn in my case):

Sniper Veil - Flecktarn Woodland [BD] - TaiwanGun.com

It's still a net basically but it has a camouflage pattern so it's not a dead giveaway like the flat green one in the OP's image. I haven't tested it yet (and I don't know when I will) but it may somewhat work.

Even if just as a base coat. Put some natural veg on it and it'll conceal even better. Of course it's not as good as a ghillie but it's a lot lighter and it won't catch on as much stuff as a ghillie. It's also a lot easier to put away, you can roll it up and use it as a scarf if it's not needed. It's not meant to replace a ghillie I'd say, but it is a good lightweight alternative to easily conceal things for medium to long ranges.

At close ranges, it'll never work. But over 100 feet, with the camouflage pattern on it, if placed properly, sure, it'll work. Assuming it's not a flat colour but it's a camouflaged net.

If anything, it's better than nothing

Yup the ghillie veil and viper hood are pretty similar concepts, and of course you can use burlap in the hoods, although I prefer to go just with local vegetation. They are the best concealment option imho,

But anything you put on has the potential to tangle with branches and such.

I think you are misinterpreting how to effectively use the sniper veils, they are more of a face camouflage than a standalone solution. The picture from the OP might incorrectly give that sensation, but they should be used more like this:

to conceal the face shape and the skin much better than what face paint could ever do, and use it together with some silhouette breaking stuff like the ghillie / viper hood.

As I said earlier I would consider the sniper veil a primary mean of concealment only when mission requires an extremely fresh, light and fast loadout.

They work great for extremely arid / desert scenarios too, as the resulting "blob" feels so much more natural:

Sniper veils

i think Camo scrims are greatly underestimated. I have done lots of trials and i find them great for changing environments. I shot the worst camo for this area, then added a scrim. The difference is obvious. The bonus is that the light shines through to the colours underneath, causing shadows, and giving a 3D effect

What's good about it is that it removes the black shadow from your face because it slopes outwards.
I sorta do the same by using 3d leaf jacket with hood (you know the one) and a cap. The hood extends over the cap and follows it to the edge. So i can control the height of the hood very easily.
It creates a big shadow area, so it is important to keep really "low". I basicly look out through a small gap that is between ground and top of scope.
But it works very well.

But i would not use a veil like what is shown in the thread. It looks annoying.
