I played all day with this rifle and found that it was a bit lacking..

its HEAVY @ 5kg its a bit of a beast..not the end of the world
fps on .32s = 260-270fps
Wont hop a .28 out past 30m
No hop up upgrade available the best you can get is the stock TM one.
Specna claim its airsoft pro parts compatible, yet the upgrade kit (Piston is too small for stock cylinder, spring guide, m140, 0 degree trigger set) caused the rear of the stock cylinder to shear off after 3 test shots.
Now have a full steel one peice cylinder & head on the way..

Parts for the AWS platform are HARD to find...its really only airsoft pro you can use ...

If you dont want to spend £200 on upgrades after spending £250+ on the rifle dont bother with it.This has now cost more than an SSG24 but will never perform as well.

Just as a side note...

Stock cylinder is Alloy, like a coke can. its crimped at the rear with alloy as well so anything but stock spring will break it. (found out the hard way)
Stock piston is plastic, single O ring
Stock spring guide is plastic
Stock cylinder head is brass single o ring and the airseal is ...what air seal.

Outer barrel, Rail, Bolt handle, Front Sight & Flash hider are all metal, this biases the weight well toward the front and make holding the rifle a bit of a chore all day.

everything else is very thin plastic and would probably break if dropped under the weight of the above.

There has been a spate of reviews recently shining light on this sniper which is a TM AWS L96 clone with a cheap plastic clam shell stock.

By all means im not hating on specna as i use one of thier aegs and its a beast but its in the edge range so has steel internals...

There are not a lot of airsoft manufacturers world wide. There are only a small handful. Most brands are manufactured in the same factory and then just rebranded. So I would guess that it is just a WELL rifle with a different brand name.

Tbh, if you want a SV98, better get the new WELL MB4420. AFAIK its has an L96 AWS receiver, so the cylinder, trigger group, piston and spring guide should be compatible.

I feel as though a better platform could have been utilised to create the sv-98.

As far as my research is leading me to believe there really isn't much in terms of upgrades...I will have exhausted my options and basically gutted the rif at this point just to get it to field limits and to hopefully hop a decent weight BB which is a must in the UK with windy conditions.

Airsoft pro 0° trigger
Airsoft pro cylinder
Airsoft pro cylinder head
Airsoft pro piston
Airsoft pro spring guide
M140 maybe an M160 if the air seal doesn't improve...there's no room around the hop unit to add teflon tape without disturbing the rubber.

I may have to experiment with custom hop arms or nubs to extend the range of the hop adjustment.

Other than that the only thing I could do is change the barrel but I'm over twice my budget and really don't want to spend more as I'm just looking at it and thinking..this could have been a much better rifle..I may end up selling it and waiting a few months to get an SSG10

Hi, I just came across this thread and was thinking about getting one. Done LOADS of tech work before, but never on a sniper oddly enough. I was just wondering what progress you ended up making, and what sort of cylinder you ended up using? Probably a noob question, but I wanted to be research before going any further with getting one.

Tbh, you are better off going with a VSR based or an APS2 based system

Hey! How are you doing? I found your post trying to find upgrades for the SV98-core and I wonder if you found a cylinder for this rifle? All the cylinders I am finding are too small...
