Yes, this is even more serious, in June the EU could possibly sign a bill that is basically a censorship bill made sound like an act against 'Piracy'

It will not only effect the EU but America signed on for it two years ago, so if it is ratified it'll effect you too Americans. And Japanese.
It will be kept within the parliament or whatever and it won't the public's decision. Think of all the sights being censored, youtube, facebook, pr0n, (If you are a pirate) - the pirate bay. And Many, many more.

At a whim, without debate they have the power to block or take down any website they want.

Also they punish us with a three strike system for trying to access this 'copyright infringement' material. They can disconnect our internet or fine us. I even heard reports that they are allowed to search our ipods etc. for pirated music in customs and airports.

It is a ridiculous bill and kills free speech, harms businesses by disabling advertisement, blocks original content, adds difficulties to rising stars etc. because of fear of copyright and it'll also mean there won't be any more youtube parodies. Please someone think of the lolcats!

This will ruin the internet, even after repeated requests they still haven't released a full description of the bill, they are being purposely vague to trick us.

So do your bit, stand up for your freedom of speech and ring your MPs, sign the petition and rally support like those in Poland.

IT EFFECTS EVERYONE.
Thnak you.

STOP ACTA
Sign this petition ring your Mp, or even email (RINGING IS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY OF MAKING A POINT)https://secure.avaaz.org/en/eu_save_the_internet_spread/?slideshow

Email extract "Dear friends,

Last week, 3 million of us beat back America's attack on our Internet! --- but there is an even bigger threat out there, and our global movement for freedom online is perfectly poised to kill it for good.

ACTA - a global treaty - could allow corporations to censor the Internet. Negotiated in secret by a small number of rich countries and corporate powers, it would set up a shadowy new anti-counterfeiting body to allow private interests to police everything that we do online and impose massive penalties -- even prison sentences -- against people they say have harmed their business.

Europe is deciding right now whether to ratify ACTA -- and without them, this global attack on Internet freedom will collapse. We know they have opposed ACTA before, but some members of Parliament are wavering -- let's give them the push they need to reject the treaty. Sign the petition -- we'll do a spectacular delivery in Brussels when we reach 500,000 signatures:

It's outrageous -- governments of four fifths of the world

I wonder who is behind this crap approach to take our internet rights what the hell. This is so against the right to express your self and speech. To try to control what we see is just the start. Next thing they want to control the way one thinks. Fthat

I can tell you exactly who it is. It's all the movie and music companies. They've been crying for years that they've been losing money to piracy. SOPA and ACTA would have given them complete control of the internet so they could stop these practices even in places where a certain country has no anti-piracy laws in place.

If you do any sort of pirating you should have noticed by now that many of the private and public trackers alike have their domains hosted in countries like Russia and Ukraine. Their domain extensions have also changed from .com to things like .ru and .me to further protect their domains from these acts. This is why they're moving to do SOPA and ACTA since the original Protect IP act failed.

Yes the US ratified ACTA but it only happens when the EU parliament passes it. So when that happens every country signed on (INCLUDING MINE AND YOURS) will be affected. It also affects countries that haven't signed it too eg Ukraine where many torrent sites are located. where they can't view a lot of user created content. If it is enforced it could ruin the internet.

HOWEVER...since it is not a law, just a treaty, it is up to the internet provider whether or not they block certain content and report activity. It's NOT an obligation. HOwever it will DEFINITELY get rid of all major sites such as movies.2k, The piratebay, Torrent junkie, tvlinks.eu etc. etc. (Even though they only link it and not host it they will still be affected by the treaty)

How about private sites? And I just read the other day that on January 26th all but 5 European countries (Finland as one of not lucky ones =/ ) signed the treaty... What's the use in collecting names anymore? It's still going on...

All the countries that sign it mean they agree with it and MAY enforce it if they wish. Bu the treaty has to be passed by the EU Parliament. As in after a full debate etc.
So email, or even better even ring your MP's expressing your concerns (Listed in the video) and why it shouldn't be passed. So no, that battle isn't lost until it is passed. Which will be in june or july (can't remember)

Collecting names helps, email MP's helps A LOT, Ringing MP's and protesting Helps massively.
