This is a detailed guide for breaking down a 29 round magazine. I will do my best to accurately describe the steps.

The Magazine...

Tools I used...

Simple Green and water (This is not necessary, I like to degrease and clean everything.)

Slide the bottom plate off the magazine... (Mine has a hole because it's tapped for a HPA rig)

Using a punch or a Allen wrench push out the retaining pin...

Slide outer housing off the body...

Using a Allen wrench, unscrew the spring retainer. (Hold it with you finger while your remove the screw, if you don't it will fly off.)

Take the spring and follower out. (Follower not pictured)

Next unscrew the BB holder off the body...

Remove the o-ring...

Unscrew the two gas cylinders...

Remove retaining pin for the knock lever...

Unscrew the four screws holding the back plate on...

Gently prey it off...

Gently remove the rubber o-ring...

Using a flat head screw driver, unscrew the brass retainer. Be very careful not to mar the metal...

Remove the o-ring from the retainer. Please be gentle with all o-rings!

Next part is a little tricky. This pieces will get seized up. I had to take a pair of needle-nose pliers, insert them in the notch and pop it out. Take your time here...

This o-ring is not fun getting off, not necessary in my opinion...

Stripped block..

All this from one mag..... Really?

Reassembly in next post.

Cheers!

Re-assembly is a little tricky, nothing too tough if you take your time.

First thing will be the internal gas retainer. Put the o-ring back on the retainer. Lube it with a Air-soft/Rubber safe oil. ( I used P-Force Silicone oil.)

Next insert the spring in the body first, then the retainer. It will get stuck, you will need to take a punch or Allen wrench and something to tap them with.

Place body on the table, hold firmly then tap the retainer into the body. It will pop through the hole.

It will look something like this...

Re-install o-ring on the brass retainer, lube it also...

Be sure to spray oil inside body onto the gas retainer before you screw in the brass piece in...

Tighten it down all the way until it stops. Be gentle the brass is very soft!

Doing this will again seize up the internal gas retainer. Take a punch and push it down until it breaks free. Spray more oil on it, push it up and down a few times to make sure it moves freely.

There is slit on the internal gas retainer...

You will have to use a small flat head screw driver to turn the retainer so the notch of the retainer is facing the to the right hand side....

Next will be the back-plate. Re-install the o-ring, lube it yada yada...

Next place the two pieces EXACTLY like this! Make sure the lever stays in this position...

While pushing the two pieces together, make sure the lever goes inside the notch on the retainer. This is very important!

Depress the the brass plunger on the back plate, make sure the internal gas retainer moves up and down.

Re-install the screws...

Re-install the gas knock lever...

Don't forget to re-install the pin!

This next part isn't necessary, but I used Teflon tape on the gas cylinders.

Tighten the cylinders back onto the body, don't forget to give them some oil..

Next re-install the o-ring onto the brass cap...

Place the spring first then the cap onto the body...

Attach the BB holder with appropriate screws (should be the only two Phillips screws left)

Insert the follower...

Insert the spring then the spring retainer. (The spring can only go one way. One end will fit the follower and one will fit the retainer.)

Install retainer screw using a Allen wrench. (Don't forget to keep a finger on the retainer, or buy buy spring...
)

Slide the outer body back on...

Don't forget the pin!

Re-install bottom plate..

Yay all done!

Once you finish, I will sticky this right up. Excellent work, extremely detailed, with great pics.

Thanks Fuzzy!

Before it's all over, I will post guides for all the mechanical parts of my Tanaka. There aren't many good guides out there.
I am going to go ahead and sticky this now for you. Feel free to add any other details that seem fit.

Great work.
Guys! I took off the base(thanks to this amazing guide) and my mag only has one big shiny silver cylinders!!! Why? How will this affect me? Does it mean i can never tap this mag?

no just take out the fill valve and drill and tap it there, it will be easier and eliminate one more thing that can leek.
EXALTED! Nice guild and pics. You're a trooper.
Great review,
I have 3 long mag for the AICS and all of them have only 1 cylinder to hold gas and yours has 2 where did you get them?
Also 1 question where can I find inlet valves for these mags, the M700 I received yesterday came with 3 mags and 1 is leaking from there also 1 of the long also leaks from the valve, where can I find replacement valves?

Wolf
Have you tried removing the fill valve (with a screwdriver) lubbing the tinny o-ring, and putting it back into the bottom of the valve?
Yes many times on the long and I haven't tried it on the short.

Thank you so much, one of my mags was missing an o ring, and i never new which one it was, it was the one on the little plunger under the brass (looking?) piece. If anyone can help with one more step, does anyone know what the size is for that o-ring? For more refference to the peice it is the on on picture #1 on the re-assembly

Edit: i do realize that this thread is Extremely old, dont judge me, im new here. :D
What are the sizes of the o-rings in pictures 23 and 10? My gas is shooting right out of there every time I fill my magazine. Thanks in advance.
I removed the bottom plate and the retainment pin, but I can't remove the body from the outer housing. I only can move it slightly back and forth and sideways, but not out of the housing. What's wrong?

From the picture, I can see that you only have 4 screws and the retainer pin. There should be 5 screws I believe. There is one that holds the outer housing to the BB containment thin rectangular chamber. At the bottom there is a screw that holds the spring in place while going through the outer shell.
I hope the photo I'm attempting to attach works. Hope this is answers your question: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

*Edit* I'm just linking the page instead lol...
Right, thanks mate!

Now I'm stuck again - I can't remove the back plate. I can move it 2mm at any side, but it's getting pulled back in.

Surprisingly I never had a knock lever - is that normal? The rifle once worked fine and I never have seen this part before..

I have the Action Army Long Mag which has a knock lever, so I honestly don't know how to take that specific model apart correctly. You'll have to consult a more intelligent sniper than myself or be willing to experiment abit to find the answer.
Sorry I couldn't be any more help.
