So, I was in a conversation with a member on ASR who was relatively new to the concept of sniping. He originally PM'd me asking about some advice for his TSD M700, and after a few exchanges, he eventually asked me a question that often times seems to be simply glossed over.
1. a 12-15 year old who thinks he is the best sniperer in the world because his mom bought him a L96 that he saw in his video games. He puts in the strongest spring he can possibly get, shoots Crosman .12's or .20's, misses every single person within a 50 foot radius and further, and as a result, he gets super mad at his friends who beat him with their $20 Wal Mart guns. As a result, he shoots one of them from 25 feet away after the game ends to "test out the gun and see if it's working," giving his friend a massive hole in his arm/chest/face/etc. He is shunned from his group of friends, tosses the gun in the back of the garage, and, resigned, pulls out the Xbox.
or
2 a 40+ years old, rocking a ghillie suit or perhaps just an expensive vintage pair of BDU's on scorching days, who has spent probably around 2k on his gun and can hit a person from 300 ft. away on the dot. His gun is modded to the max, with a mock mock suppressor that secretly works, and camo painted his gun to the point where it looks like nothing more than a tree branch. $250 pair of boots, full face camo, and shades to hide his swag from unworthy beings. You can never find him on the field, he never dies, and if you're playing against him, it's not a question of if you get shot; it's when. You may hate him, but he wipes your hate off his shoulders like the leaves, dirt, and bugs left on him from hiding for the entire game and busting a cap in your ass.
At least all of us on here are the 2nd. Except me. I'm only 19... next month.
I looked in the FAQ section of my brain where most of my answers lie, but came up with nothing. So I thought about it, and realized why. Airsofters hate snipers because they are either:
