White lithium grease is not at all harmful to your plastic or rubber components.

As for the paint, do whatever is on the ground, which, I'm guessing, is usually a dead grass/sandy color(?) - remember, you won't be hiding in the trees.

Actually, since it is tan with a green overlay, try painting the rifle a tan scheme, with rubber bands or elastic for veg - that would be the most natural...

Did you paint the cylinder? Or the inside of the receiver? That would do it as far as bolt pull...

Have you tried heating the orange tip?

Or, conversely, have you tried burning it off? Just make sure there is nothing in the outer barrel when you do that, and make sure that the outer barrel doesn't melt, or something - steel/iron/zinc probably won't melt, depends on how hot it gets weather or not Al does.
