I sort of want the Steyr SCOUT since it seems like a good base for homemade parts, and the barrel looks AWESOME.
For the next gun I wanna make I want it to have a real looking outer barrel, something that airsoft snipers need more of.
I don't think that even .50BMG has 30 mil barrels at the muzzle except for custom stuff, so sadly VSR based stuff just doesn't look as good.

I do understand that it isn't exactly feasible to get massive wall tubing to shave most of it down, but it would be cool. I suppose that would require either a 2 piece setup or you'd have to access your hop chamber through the receiver, since the taper just wouldn't allow that.

There's tons of bull-barrels on real rifles. And especially on shorter barrel guns, I prefer the look. The MLC stock is essentially perfect for a spring gun too. It's so comfy and sturdy and I think it looks awesome.

Also, I'm way past replicating real rifles. I've got plenty of those and don't need any more. This is all about squeezing every last bit out of an airsoft-only rifle. If that means leaving behind features that are on real guns, so be it. Replication doesn't make much sense once the replica is multiple-times more expensive than the real thing.

Going to take some time to highlight the barrel system I designed. Out of all the new stuff, this is probably the bit that will make the largest improvements to accuracy and consistency. To start, this is completely backwards compatible with standard VSR receivers, but there is obviously a benefit to using my receiver design. Essentially, the locking nut is used with my receiver, but not with a standard receiver. On a standard receiver, it would attach just like any other outer barrel.

What I did here was completely isolate the hopup chamber and mag block from the outer barrel and stock. Normally, you'd clamp the hop up chamber between the mag block and the outer barrel and then to the stock, but in doing so you almost always pull it off-center within the outer barrel (because the fit between the chamber and outer barrel always has some clearance). And when you pull it off center your nozzle is never going to line up correctly. You can normally try to correct this by wrapping your chamber in tape or using o-rings to help center it, but the screws will pretty much always be stronger and still pull it off center.

So to fix this, my chamber, mag block, and TDC are not being clamped across the outer barrel in any way. Instead, it is screwed directly into an intermediate cap which then screws into the outer barrel like your normal flash hider would. By using threads that are all facing the same direction, the hop up chamber naturally wants to sit directly in the center of the outer barrel. I then use a big spring to keep tension on those threads so that the chamber can't wobble with the looseness of the threads. Lastly, the TDC and mag block are directly connected to the chamber so that there is still no way for it to get pulled off-center. Perfect alignment, every time.

The design of the chamber itself isn't anything radical. Very similar to an AA design, except with the provisions for the TDC and mag block. Uses a similar arm design to my normal AA arm with the same primary geometries. Mag block is entirely self-contained, and uses Cyma guts currently. Didn't plan to fix all the issues with mag catches, but this does that too.

Lastly, the hop up chamber, intermediate cap, and flash hider all have inner barrel centering/locking provisions. The chamber and intermediate cap both use the same triple-sided brass locking collar, and the flash hider uses some x-rings to center the barrel. No need for any other barrel stabilizers.

TDC wheel is clicky too, obviously.

*the hop up arm in the pics is just a placeholder for now. Haven't made the new ones yet.

Definitely needs some strengthening so it flexes less. Placeholder reinforcing beam didn't come out great so it's not installed. Otherwise, feels and looks good I think. Will make a couple ergo adjustments as well. Also note how the ejection port matches the magazine size unlike every single other VSR stock with a fake mag.

I have the same stock and love it for the same reasons.

The improvements you're working on look fabulous......to the point I would get another VSR to drop them on!

Thank you! All the receiver and hop up stuff is working really well so far too. I’d say the barrel/hop up chamber is the real upgrade here, and the receiver is more of a quality of life improvement. The threads on the outer barrels I had made ended up being really close tolerance and basically don’t wobble in a standard receiver anyway, but when using the new receiver lock up super well.

Also, turns out designing and making a stock from scratch is really difficult lol. At least one that isn’t just doing the same thing that everyone else does.

I can imagine! Somewhat akin to reinventing the wheel. Will be watching with interest 👍
