Hey guys, I haven't purchased my rifle yet, and to be honest, i still hesitate between the BAR-10 and the WELL MB01C. I am new to BASRs and this is my rather low budget WELL MB01C upgrade theorycrafting list.

Action army Hop up Chamber:
https://triggerairsoft.com/shop/Action-Army-Type-96-Hop-Up-Chamber.html
I've read that the AA chamber has a built in TDC mod, but forgot if that was only for the VSR or also applies for Type 96 as well... *thinking emoji*.

Action army Bucking:
https://triggerairsoft.com/shop/Action-Army-Hop-up-Rubber-for-Type-96.html
Do we need a special nub for these or the old stock nub can be used? Do I need the barrel to be unbridged?

Action army Barrel:
https://triggerairsoft.com/shop/Action-Army-Precision-Barrel-G3SG-470mm.html
This part is where I have the most problem understanding. First of all, would this barrel fit/perform? I've seen cases on the forum when people bought the wrong barrel and end up losing like 100 FPS lol. Finally, is it a big problem that the inner barrel is 30mm shorther than the original one?

BBs:
Valken 0.32g Premium BIODEGRADEABLE Grade BBs 5000ct
I've seen the thread on BBs, but do you guys think 0.32 or 0.36 would perform better on a stock spring?

I am also planning on tying the bucking with dental floss and wrap the connecting part with the barrel.

I do not want to raise the FPS of this gun by much since the limit in my area are all 450 FPS max for BASR no matter what =/. I do understand that the stock spring is crappy and will get worn out, but I think i'll just get a laylax 130sp at this point.

Alright friends, this is my theorycrafting and inquiries. Any input would be very appreciated :)

I look forward to dive in the world of BASR! hopefully, my wallet wouldn't hate me too much :D

If you're on a tight budget with a MB 01, then buy an aluminum hop up arm, flat hop the stock hop rubber and make an eraser flag nub. Seal the hop rubber too the barrel with dental floss.
Shorten the existing barrel to around 440mm, polish and recrown. Fit it into the outer barrel with three barrel spacers made from masking tape.
Clean out the stock grease from the cylinder and relubricate with Superlube. Carefully modify the piston head to give better control of the O ring, and add some weight with steel washers under the end of the spring.
Use 0.36-0.4g BBs.

I had two action army barrels, 6.01 & 6.03. both didnt realy perform that great, they are cheap but not worth imo. I run a maple leaf jet 430mm now, reasonable priced but performs noticeably better. So i would either upgrade to a jet barrel or go all the way for a stainless edgi or pdi.

my build started as a bar10, i would not play that thing stock. fps where low, zylinder & spring guide trash, barrel looked very bad, airseal bad, after what i have heared they used to be better quality but mine (mid 2017) was just trash (i only needed the trigger and stock anyway).

If you get the AA hopup chamber, you most likely will not have to do the dental floss mod as it should have 100% seal. The AA chambers are good.

Mmh I looked up the crazy jet line from ML, but from what I see, they only offer vsr and pistol barrels =/ not sure if it fits with the AA chamber ... The egdi barrels are pretty nice, but they charge 50$ or some for shipping, which is the price of a new barrel. It'll end up being the same price (maybe even a bit more) than a PDI/prommy barrel at my local store. Should I get a prommy or pdi or edgi? Anybody got some experience with them?

@1tonne thanks buddy! Also thanks for the replies on all my pm's lol.

@hangtight im actually not on a super tight budget. I'll swap out the barrel group once I get the gun. But thanks for the imput, ill definitely clean and regrease the cylinder and work on the pistons! Thanks for the imput!

i think between these three its just a hit or miss wich one will work better. they are all quality barrels.

promy will be the budget friendly.
pdi expansive and proven.
edgi most expansive (specially if you go for a stainless), but they offer full customization so you can choose what ever lenght, bore, hopup window size, outer diameter, porting etc. this would be my go to for ER Hop builds, where u maximize the money loss for the smallest amount if performance gain . <- way to go in airsoft ;)

I agree with Hangtight...go with a heavier BB. My L96 shoots 460 fps and I use 36's. I should use heavier but I'm using up an old supply of BB's. Takes a long time with a bolt gun! Get another brand besides Valken, if you can. They're not the most accurate, and in fact I've had them shatter, etc.

Thanks for the quick answer guys!
@Zero, since you are in canada, which online store do you use to buy prommys or barrels in general? I've seen them at tactikairsoft in Montreal, but i'd like to avoid QC stores since I live in QC and the tax is pretty heavy around there =/

Honestly? I don't use aftermarket barrels. No need. The stock G&G Top Tech barrels are really good, and 6.04 is all the barrel I need. Most people either throw them away because it's not a Prommy, or I can usually trade a coffee and donut for a G&G barrel. If it's not exactly the right length I cut it and recrown it and I'm good to go! In the case of my MB01, I'm running the stock barrel, just really well polished.

After you've done the hop, and made sure the compression is air tight, the barrel just acts like a guide. I've tried 6.01 to 6.10 and honestly, 6.04 is right about perfect. 6.01 is too tight...it can jam especially on rifles with full auto..yeah, 6.10 is sloppy. But even the stock Well barrel at 6.08 works just fine. Besides, for the price of a coffee and a donut, you can't beat a 6.04!!

I put way more importance on consistent airflow and how the hop actually positions the BB for flight as well as how it induces the spin. Once that's happening, the BB just rides the cushion of air out the tube. I make sure my air supply is consistent, as in the piston firing the same everytime, or the gearbox being very predictable. Make sure the bucking to nozzle alignment is perfect. I've even used a laser for that in a couple of builds. If you're not putting any uneven pressure on the bucking it's less prone to leak. Alignment is a big deal.

As for BB's, and barrels, and other parts, Canada may as well be a black hole. hahahaha. I try and shop local for BB's which in my case used to Bent Barrel in Red Deer, who's now closed. BuyAirsoft? Good guys but the owner is a real asshole...So we limit our shopping there. So, now we drive to Edmonton and get them from B2. James is a good guy and big supporter of the airsoft sport, so our local club shops there. He carries Gryphon BB's which everybody seems to like and are still bios.

Valkens were around here for a while but weren't very consistent. Green Devils were good, but again, Bent Barrel closed. I try and source BB's 'in person' just because of the shipping costs. If I'm in Edmonton fooling around anyways, might as well do a little shopping.

So, Tu viens de Montreal? Moi aussi! One thing, even if you're buying BB's out of province, when the invoice gets printed up, you still may get charged the extra 'belle taxe' just because they're shipping there. So what's taktik like for guns?

Taktik seems to only carry Ares for his clone BASR line up. In all honesty, it's inventory is very limited. I went there a couple weeks ago and the size is the same as your local tim horton. They hold more AEGs though, but did not really pay much attention to them.

As for after market parts, they are almost all out of stock. Sadly, only DivisionXP in Quebec city, northernrecon in Ontario and triggerairsoft in Vancouver offer a wide range of after market parts. (They are the only AA distributors in Canada)

After some research, I figured all these items can be bought for around 200$ CAD in Division XP (yes... I gotta pay that damn 15% tax...), but hey, they offer free shipping for orders over 100$ :)

As for the barrel, I am planning on getting the AA Hopup unit, so I'd have to get an AEG barrel. The GG donut barrel probably wouldn't work =/ I guess I could also get an AA barrel and if it doesnt work too well, I can just polish the crap out of it...

Actually, the donut barrel is perfect! You'd have to cut it for an MB01, but an M16 barrel is ideal. 6.04, brass...and you can r hop it. What's not to like? Cutting a barrel is a little tricky if you're not used to do, but I've been doing machine work for decades. Piece of cake. You just have to take your time. Now remember, if you go with an AA hop up, the barrel length will change too. What's stock in the MB01? 459 or something like that? In any case, that'll change...

No matter, 200 bucks with free shipping is still pretty good and you don't have to do a bunch of math. Win/win...

I believe the length is 499 or 500... not sure =/ but i'm a bit lazy to do all that. I will probably just do some drop in upgrades on this rifle and then in the summer, I could get another one and then, really start tinkering on it! We're still covered in snow, so it leaves me a couple months to get everything ready :)

There, I changed my signature pic to my L96 to maybe give you a little inspiration. It's been done over in every which way possible. hahahaha. Fires a cool 455fps, but with the modified hop, etc, is super easy to pull and still launches a .40 like nobody's business. Remember something, in the sniper game, fps is only a small part of it. You can have all the horsepower in the world, but when you have less than 1 round per second as a rate of fire, silence and accuracy are really what you're after. It's easy to get a rifle to fire far, but being able to hit a head sized target at 80 yards (240 feet) 10 out of 10 times...now that's something.

Update:
I got the gun (asg aw.308) today for 140 CAD scope included. I have to say, i'm happily surprised by it...

Pros: came with a cool looking silencer.
Already a tight bore installed (madbull python v2... I know it sucks, but hey, still better than stock)
Seems like all metal piston, spring guide.
Looks like it has the Army Force upgrade kit... not sure...
Decent paintjob done to it
Nothing wobbly. Yay.

Cons:
No safety.
Rust here and there, but nothing too dramatic.
Mag catch screw is rusty and cant be tightened anymore. Therefore, I gotta go find a screw
The pin on the bolt handle is missing. The bolt is therefore dangling.

Soooo.... if anybody got a stock trigger safety, hit me up :)
