Let put this clearer: You don't need to do the barrel first. There are better things to do before you buy a barrel.

The only time you NEED a new barrel is if you buy a hop chamber than needs an AEG style barrel (if your rifles doesn't already take a aeg style one that is).

Try polishing your current barrel - this might be enough.

Well yeah cutting down to size... yeah.

But if you are cutting that grove for the bucking... a dremmel is fine, just go slow.

I say that because I am sure most people on here don't have access to a mill and a lathe like we do cheese ;)

I still have my stock barrel in my BAR10 and I'm hitting headshots at 200 feet with the TDC mod. It's an easy mod to do, and you don't have to get the PDI chamber if you do the mod and shim your stock chamber.
Barrel length has a negligible effect on accuracy, but it will give you slightly higher fps and a quieter shot, assuming cylinder volume is correctly matched. However, you would see a major drop in fps if you shortened YOUR barrel without porting your L96 cylinder, because L96 cylinders are made for longer barrels. I also wouldn't go for a new tightbore, as 6.08mm seems to be suiting me fine.

My first priority would be to do the hopup mods (TDC, shims, maybe rhop) and the compression mods (teflon tape, dental floss). Then, I would get a better bucking or maybe an rhop.
