Hi. I live in the tropics and I plan to convert my mk23 to a carbine. A 310 mm 6.01 inner with stock valves and 14kg puff dino green gas can reach 570 fps on a .20. Knowing this is a gas gun, I assume that if I extend the barrel to a certain point, it will decrease chrono readings despite the gas being fully utilized. Does putting in an extra long barrel considered cheating the chrono since I am able to fully maximize the gas output? If not, will a longer barrel that allows a lower fps reading affect distance and accuracy vs a perfect length one?

Thanks

As long as you're within your field limits it's not cheating.

It has sort of been agreed upon that 300mm is about the longest barrel for a MK23 that you can get away with, so I'd stick with that.
You could go longer, but you'd need a stronger hammer spring, or stronger gas/HPA, or both.

570 on a .20g is no joke, so I imagine that with a decent weight ammo you may be shooting pretty hot.
I'd chrono with the BBs you plan to use before you shoot anybody with it.

Thanks. Some fields here have no limits but the usual maximum for basr is 550, dmr 500.

300mm on the mk23 with 6.01 reads about 550 here. What I'm considering is extending the barrel to achieve just below 2.32J on the chrono but I'm worried that will be cheating since the bb has already travelled far enough inside the barrel for it to decelerate when reaching the end of the barrel at the tip of chrono vs one with a shorter barrel that reads below 2.32J when touching the chrono.

If the barrel is too long and the BB starts slowing down inside it can lead to inconsistent accuracy as it makes BB trajectory unpredictable where it bounces off the inside of the barrel more, shorter to reduce power is better than longer
