there is a lot of talk about tuning your VSR.
can someone explain to me how to do that?
what needs tuning? other than proper installation of all the parts what is there to tune?

That is kind of a vague question.

What are you wanting the rifle to be?
A short quick to deploy rifle?
A high fps, long range rifle?
A short range extremely accurate rifle?
A CQB style rifle?

Each one of those options has a completely different way to modify the rifle to do that specific job.

500 fps long range accurate rifle.
Steel Piston Sear
Steel Trigger Sear
Steel Spring Guide
High Pressure Piston
M150 Spring (usually)
TM, Firefly or Nineball hop bucking
DangerWerx Type B Hope Lever or perform TDC Mod
Use 0.36g or heavier BBs.

After this you could tune more by....

Tightbore barrel of 6.03 or 6.04mm
Steel Cylinder or Teflon Cylinder
Steel Spring Guide Stopper
Barrel Spacers or make your own out of electrical tape.

If you buy a Zero Trigger of some kind (PDI, Laylax or ASPUK) you don't need to but the piston or sears as these normally come with the triggers as they are 90 degree which makes cocking the rifle much smoother and takes less wear on the internal parts such as cylinder and sears.

Just want to add to daz's post, i've bought his ASPUK parts and i have to say they are very good! I was hitting 480 consistently. They feel very secure and of good quality!
500 fps, long range BASR?

A&K SVD.

Just to let you know, the cylinder is over-volumed so you will experience power creep with heavier BB's, which is a good thing imo. Anyways, that's just a suggestion if you want an inexpensive gun shooting 500 and reaching out to 250 feet.

Of course you could go the upgrade parts route, but it's so dang expensive, and your stock parts will be sitting there useless.
