Two L96's, Which would I get the better performance out of after upgrades?

So I am torn between two different L96's:

Tokyo Marui Full Metal MK96 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle Airsoft Gun ( BLK )
I like this one because of the placement of the magazine, I also have a parts list for it. I do not know if I would be able to get an aftermarket barrel, or any hop-up upgrades, which is why I am not sure if I want to get it, as I want maximum performance.

UTG Full Metal MK96 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle Airsoft Gun ( BLK )
I like this one because I know I can get an upgraded hop-up and use AEG barrels, but I do not like the mag placement.

I have done research and both builds would cost me around the same. I would prefer to get the TM, but if I can get the UTG to shoot farther I would get that. Which would give me better performance? Would they give roughly the same performance? Would it come down to DIY mods, and fine tuning the hop-up?

Thank you.

Well I have a UTG L96 with a new piston, spring, spring guide, and a new trigger box for my internals and have some upgraded externals on it.To let you know I am very happy how this gun is shooting with these upgrades with .36's and I am eventually going to put a 6.03 tightbore barrel also, but this gun is shooting good with these upgrades.I am sure the tokyo marui one will shoot good too just because it is tokyo marui. Now, I dont know much about the tokyo marui one so you can get somebody else to help you with that but I just wanted to tell you about the UTG L96.

What piston, spring, spring guide, and trigger do you have?
I just got the echo 1 for like $40-50 not sure exact price but they perform good.If you want better then that then get the PDI ones.
What length is the barrel? if I wanted to add an 8-9 inch mock suppressor how long would I want?
If i want to hit around 500 FPS what spring/bucking do i need?
It says the spring in the upgrade kit there should put you at around 550 fps.I actually added a suppressor to mine but not a long one.It is a spartan doctrine suppressor and you will need the attatchment to were you can put the suppressor on.You can look at my album and you will see the length.

I think I have everything all set, I will post my list here later. Are the threads CCW or CW? and are there any guides on how to cut a barrel for, and install an ER-Hop(in my case IER, but they are the same except for cold resistance correct?)?
If you fully upgrade either the TM L96-AWS or the UTG Mk96, the end result should be the same. Just keep in mind that the price of fully upgrading either of the two will be the only difference.

The amount of money it takes to fully upgrade a TM will definitely be much more, considering how the gun itself is 2-3 times the price of a UTG. You will also need to replace the trigger mech with a 90 degree trigger mech (the stock 45 degree system is trash), and get a 90 degree piston as well, which all adds up.
Thats what I was thinking, the TM L96 is going to be a bit more pricey.
I would go for the UTG (Which is a Maruzen clone, in case you didn't know); magazine placement doesn't affect the performance and many people have said that the feeding mechanism in the Tokyo Marui L96 isn't that great! If you're really bothered about the mag placement either look in to gas rifles or put a fake mag there. ;)

As lulukchoo said, either one will perform excellently when upgraded. Just make sure to get a nice stable backspin from your hop-up and the right weight and grade of ammo to match your barrel and velocity.

Good luck.

I actually have a parts list and everything, I will post it here shortly. I was planning on ER-hopping it(is this better than regular R-Hop for range?). is a 590mm barrel overkill? I want to add a long mock suppressor so it would fit, otherwise I am going with a 550mm.
ER-hop is better, yes, as it provides a more stable backspin. And 590mm isn't an over-kill if you make sure the cylinder volume matches it.

Post your parts list too as there might be people on here who have used those parts and can give you more advice too.
You shouldn't need to get new sears as the Action Army trigger should come with them. I'm not sure though...

Other than that it looks good, especially with IER-hop and DIY mods. The most essential ones are barrel spacers and hop-up mods.

I agree with MiloXC3 on this, if you are getting the Action Army trigger group, the extra PDI trigger parts are not needed.
Will the 590mm barrel fit in the hop-up?
And what is a good way to cut it for the IER-Hop? mill?
Speak to Cheese Man about cutting it, he'll be able to give you the best advice.

I'm not sure about the barrel; if it is AEG-cut then it will, but I don't know if it is or not. I would do a bit of research for you but I'm on my phone. :S

Ill see if I can do some research myself, I am pretty sure the FSG-1 is an AEG, but it could be cut different, never know.
