I bought a Well MB03 almost two years ago and I have been using it off and on (a bit more off with covid) ever since. A friend recommended upgrading it with this kit:

Power Up Kit for WELL / BRAVO VSR-10 BAR-10 MB03 MB07 Series Airsoft Sniper Rifle, Accessories & Parts, Sniper Rifle Parts, Shop by Model, VSR-10 - Evike.com Airsoft Superstore

This got the rifle shooting at 540 fps on 0.20g BBs, but as one might predict the stock trigger failed (in my case it was the spring guide stopper). I managed to pull one out of a donor rifle and it has fixed the problem for a while, but it is beginning to fail again. First of all, what does the spring guide stopper do? I cannot figure out why this would cause a slam fire.

Beyond that I am looking for a solution to this problem and see a few options:

1. Replace the piston guide stopper. It would be wise to replace both sears with proper steel ones. Steel sears seem easy enough to find, is there a clear recommendation on any of them? PDI? PPS? SHS? I finally managed to find a (probably) quality spring guide stopper from Laylax:

Laylax PSS10 VSR 10 Guide Stopper (airsoftgi.com)

Here are some cheaper options that would have to be replaced every now and then:

PPS CNC VSR-10 trigger spring guide stopper - Online Airsoft Retail & Wholesale Worldwide Shipping (moaitoys.com)

WELL Replacement Spring Guide Bar for MB4411D Airsoft Sniper Rifles, Accessories & Parts, Sniper Rifle Parts, Shop by Model, APS-2 / Type 96 - Evike.com Airsoft Superstore (not sure if this is VSR-compatible)

Any thoughts on these parts? This repair would cost as low as $6 for a cheap replacement and as high as $100 if replacing all three parts with quality brands. I have not spotted any wear on the sears yet so these could be done later.

2. Replace the entire trigger box. This will work for another few months before needing to be replaced again. Would cost around $20. No good reason to do this over just the spring guide stopper except part availability.

3. Upgrade the trigger box with a 90 degree trigger. This seems to be the most recommended option, but will easily be the most expensive at $120 to $210. If anyone is selling one I would definitely be interested :) I may post a wanted ad later...

4. Something I have not thought of. You do not know what you do not know until you know it.

Additionally, I am also thinking of replacing the cylinder since the front of mine is becoming deformed. I hear that the stock piston on the Well MB03 is out of spec, will a VSR-10 one fit the MB03 receiver? Is there anything else on the MB03 that is out of spec?

Thank you for the input!

90% of your options are band-aid fixes. They do not actually fix the main problems. Which is a design problem. The only real fix is replacing the trigger to a 90 degree.

The stopper holds the guide in place during cocking. If the stopper moves out of place, EI being pushed backwards by a strong spring, will put the guide at an angle which will lift the piston off the sears resulting in slam fire.

You can shim the stopper to help prevent it from moving. Temporary/Semi-permanent fix. (depending on trigger box/unit)

Thanks for the reply Plazmaburn! The explanation makes complete sense, thank you for clarifying that. Is there a guide for shimming the stopper? I would like to do that so I can keep playing for the next few weeks until upgrade/replacement parts arrive.

None that I have seen, its a simple thing to do. gluing small washers, tape, old credit cards, built up JB weld, to the back of the stopper at where it sits in the trigger. Basically you are stopping the stopper from being able to rock backwards.

I'd say get the Laylax spring guide stopper and some SHS or PPS sears, and an Angel Custom cylinder, piston, and cylinder head down the road.
Their cylinders and pistons are pretty good judging from the ones I own plus being super cheap, so I'd definitely recommend them.

Edit: the Laylax one looks like it kind of sucks, get the PPS one as it looks way better, is in stock, and is really cheap.

did you find something negative about the Laylax stopper? Can you send me a link? Also the PPS one I sent is out of stock, will the Evike one work? Thanks!

90° or nothing
Just watched your most recent VSR build and the TDC mod vid, fantastic stuff! Is there a particular cylinder I should get? I am leaning towards the 90 degree trigger and I do not want to modify the piston to fit the well cylinder (which is beginning to deform and is in need of replacing anyways).

Should hold you until you kill your sears and replace your trigger unit. Stoppers do not usually break unless they are made of junk, and are piss poorly casted. Or you do something dumb.

As for trigger units, I would go with the S-trigger from Springer Custom Works. Its the best trigger unit I have used to date. (Arguable.) The bull trigger is nice, I didnt care for it. Same with the AA. While normally I am a large fan of PDI, their latest gen trigger is an abomination. Who ever thought of releasing that thing was a smart idea should commit seppuku. Its really that bad. Their older models were great, not that one.

Cylinders, AA, Maple Leaf, Lambda, PDI, Edgi, are all solid choices. I did not like the AA all that much, I kind of think I got a funky one, or my expectations are too high.

Have you tried the AirsoftPro trigger? I have heard good things about it. He also sells a decently priced cylinder:

For VSR, BAR10, MB03, CM.701 : Black steel cylinder for VSR , CM.701, BAR10 and Well MB-02, 03, 07... - AirsoftPro.cz

It's a good trigger and cylinder set.
The issue is that the cylinder has a smaller diameter than regular cylinders, but it doesn't really affect anything.
You might have to sand down the glide rings on your piston though.
Airsoftpro makes good products for vsr10s, however, avoid their hopup units and springs.
The springs are bad and the hopup unit is a PDI clone which makes it a pain in the a**e.

Never used the ASPro stuff.

On hopup units, I like the Archwick Chamber better then the AA chamber. Slightly cheaper overall compared to the AA and its additional bits that are needed for it. Wrote a review of it. Archwick VSR Chamber review | Airsoft Sniper Forum

The PDI chamber and its clones are not great compared to AA and Archwick. (and some other chambers)

Thanks for the recommendation! What else is needed for the AA hop?

Thank you for the advice! The listing says the piston and cylinder are designed to go together, so hopefully no sanding XD

Do you happen to have the actual piston diameter? Is it the same as the Well piston diameter?

Read the review, I cover that in it. Well kinda. Ultimately, the Archwick is a one stop shop has everything included to get you running, the AA you need to buy a bucking and nub/arm, in addition to the chamber. Also factor in any TDC components if you want, the archwick already has a TDC solution built in. (Sort of)

I'd suggest these parts.
As for the spring guide stopper, the PPS one just looks better than the Laylax.
The WELL one should work as well.
