UTG APS2 Gen 5

Well I hate to ask about a UTG gun... But a friend from a local field recently bought a UTG APS2 Gen 5.

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?products_id=24317

He wants to upgrade it and i'm trying to do some research for him to figure it out but can't find much. I am 99.9% sure its not Maruzen APS2 compatible but cannot confirm that. I was wondering if any of you knew of any aftermarket parts that would work in it? Also, if the spring is upgraded, im assuming that on a cheap rifle like this EVERYTHING will need to be upgraded.

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Yeah, just to make sure, I would go ahead and upgrade everything. While it might hold up for alittle while without upgrades, you will never know for how long. If you do not have the cash to upgrade every vital piece at one time, just upgrade a few things like a tightbore barrel, hop up chamber, bucking, piston, etc. Then as you get more money you can get the other internal pieces to allow you to safely use a upgraded spring.

A friend of mine was going to get the generation five also, and I called evike to ask if maruzen parts were compatible. He said they were... but I would make sure someone here has actually tried some parts first. Also, I called airsoftatlanta and they also said that every part was compatible. Whether or not they are right I do not know. I just wanted to give you some of the info that I have been given.

Hope this helps somewhat ;)

Thanks Fuzzy. I'm hoping for my buddy's sake that they are NOT Maruzen APS2 compatible seeing as the parts are hard to track down (i'm experiencing this with my CA M24), and I don't think he has the money seeing as he bought an $85 rifle hoping to have a good one. Ill make some calls, and hopefully Dutton will stumble upon this thread, he seems to know everything ;)
If Dutton or someone can confirm that the maruzen aps2 parts work, then check out airsoft atlanta. They have a whole section on APS2 parts. Everything from sears, pistons, cylinders/heads, zero triggers, hop up chambers, etc.

But you made the right decision to check here first and hopefully the parts will be compatible with the ones on atlanta because then your friend is in luck. :)

But I realize your friend might be on a budget. With a few simple upgrades he could have himself a decent rifle. The beauty is that you can upgrade parts over time, and not every piece needs to be replaced at once.
From the generic pictures I've seen, I'd have to say that parts for the Maruzen APS/ CA M24 are not interchangeable. I'll look around and see if I can find some more detailed pictures and try to give you a definite answer based on that since I've never personally handled one of these rifles.

*Edit*
If you can take a picture of the cylinder assembly - preferable outside of the gun - I might be able to give you a better answer from that.
Thanks Dutton! Ill try to get a pic, but im not sure when the next time I will see him is.
The compatibility is kind of a hit and miss, It depends on the part.

I have a Utg/Well APS2 Clone rifle and I enjoy using it, You may have seen it in the gallery. http://www.airsoftsniperforum.com/phpBB/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=1104 I know it looks weird but it works.

I have upgraded it with a power up kit that UTG makes and it works good you just need to buy the grease for installing it. I did not have to upgrade the trigger box but you will probably need to. The trigger box on your model is prone to breaking. He may be able to put this upgrade in if the cylinder diameters are the same. Here is my review on it

A zero trigger would be needed to handle a power upgrade but that should be the one most expensive part in the build.

The other mods he can do are making barrel spacers with duct tape or foam, and polish the inner barrel.

Also, he should get a new sling for it. The stock slings are junk.

That should get his gun working wonderfully and that is all he should do. I recommend this because it is a clone rifle and it would be better to spend a small amount of money and get to know the take down procedure and the process of upgrading without spending all sorts of money and the zero trigger could be moved to his next rifle when he outgrows it and wants a high-end model to upgrade. There is no point in throwing 300 dollars into one of those guns. But they do perform good when you tune them up correctly and for a beginner it is good enough. And I base this on the experience with my rifle. I'm sort of the Sniper Rifle Technician in my group, I work on a lot of my friends APS2 clones. I know his rifle is a little different than an L96 aps2 clone but the inexpensive upgrades are compatible, like the UTG shadow ops aps2 upgrade I believe.

He could get a PDI hopup chamber and an AEG tightbore barrel of the appropriate length, if he really wanted. PDI hopups work in the clones as well as the name brands.
Not based on these pictures, they're not compatible.

Oh well I didn't know. Though they do work in L96 APS2 clones. Anyway I wouldn't recommend putting one into a APS2 clone anyway guess I'll just remove that part in my post. Duly noted.
Alright, from the pictures I was able to find, it doesn't seem like it is APS compatible. My best guess would lean more towards VSR compatible, but without seeing it in person, don't take what I said as fact, it's simply my best guess based on limited pictures I was able to find.
I kinda figured that dutton but since he said APS2 I just jumped the gun.LOL
It did look like a VSR it probably is a rebrand of a clone vsr. I don't know much about those guns. I was only able to tear down a non functioning one, so I have never realy worked on upgrading a vsr model rifle.

What I put was an optimal upgrading scenario to a clone l96 APS2. lol

It Actually is a Gen 5 AccuShot Competition Master Sniper Rifle - OD Green.

UTG does make a upgrade kit for that model though I think he should look into that.

Anyway I hope someone can chime in on this one with more info.
