Hello all,

I have been working on my friends M4, just doing some basic upgrades wiring etc. and have run into an issue.

The gun is an Ares M4, my friend got it, plinked in the back yard and when he took it to its first game it started double feeding, not feeding and jamming. So wanting to learn to work on a V2 I offered to take a look and do some minor upgrades while I was inside.

I upgraded the wires from 18 to 16gua. installed a Deans plug and did an awesome shimming job (as in, I wish I could get my G36 to hum that smooth). The problem is that once I install the cylinder it starts to get a little crazy.

Here is a good review with good Pics: http://www.airsoftohio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32414

With everything assembled sans cylinder, piston, spring; it runs smooth and I can see the gears. Once these are installed it runs, pulls the piston back and jams up. It is not an SR25 piston, I checked it when I got it (long story short, the gun is all stock except for the piston (King Arms) and a CA piston head I had laying around).

So thats basically it. I have deduced it down to something to do with the gears to piston connection... I think. Has anyone else had a problem like this? I am just trying to get it running at this point, my friend who's gun it is is not a serious airsofter, so he doesn't want to put a bunch of money into it and I'd really prefer to only buy something if it would be essential to get it running again. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I did a proper shim job starting with the spur gear on this one (tried a new technique on my personal V3 box that actually turned out well).

I have contemplated the motor as a possibility. It came with a 9.6 1400mah and I ran it off of my 9.6 2000 mah that I use in my G36 and had the same result with both batteries.

The wiring is good, the reason that I had it apart yesterday was because the first harness I put in was getting torn up going through the barrel nut in the upper receiver, so I replaced the whole thing and put some heat shrink on it to protect it.

I am going to a shop this afternoon to see what their techs think as well, hopefully its nothing major, but it would just confuse me if it can't pull the spring that it was able to pull before if all that has changed is the piston... unless the motor got fried, but even then I would be surprised being Ares and all...
