i was on a differant forum and one person suggusted washing my bbs with warm watter and dish soap, i was a bit currious so tried it out, loaded 10 rounds half washed half straight from the madbul .43 bb jar. with the ones straight out of the jar, i could trace the bb and see they would curve a bit at 150 feet maybe about 3 or 4 inches off the target, and when i got to the 5 rounds that was washed...PERFECT i was suppried this worked, the only way the washed bb was off was that my hop up wasnt adjusted propery, but it didnt not veer off left or right at all. i hope this wasnt posted before but i just wanted everyone to know

I always wash mine.

It removes the moulding release agent that the manufacturer never washes off, which is basically a fine grease that contaminates the hop rubber.

Wash if off and it will help the hop rubber grip the BB better and reduce the amount of crap that sticks inside your barrel

There was a guy who rigged up a bottle on a slow motor similar to a stone polisher for the sole purpose of cleaning his BBS.

I soak mine in diet cola overnight, then wash them thoroughly in soapy water, then thoroughly rinse them in/under cold running water in a sieve.

"Oh ****! I just spilled 3000 of my washed-in-soapy-pop bbs!"

I have to admit though, that is a fine idea.

Cola is able to get more of the stuff that they use on the bbs. Kind of like cleaning anything on your are with a can of coke.

I to use the sock method as well. That reminds me that I need to grab an old sock and do that for this weekend.

Like woogie says cola contains acids that helps to lift off the grease.

Make sure its diet cola mind, or zero sugar, as if you use full fat the sugar will stick to the BBs and soap will not break it up as well when you get to stage 2

Then wash them in soapy water as washing up soap is a degreasant, lifting off anything that the cola missed.

Rinsing them in cold water is better as its normaly at a higher pressure and comes straight from your pumping station.

If you use warm water its at a lower pressure, it contains more contaminates from your heating system, and the lime scale deposit ratio is higher..... its why you should never drink water from the hot tap..... Yup, you guessed it part of my job is being a plumber ;)

Which is why coke starts rotting your teeth instantly if you hold it in your mouth for more than about ten seconds
. Try it, there are no lasting effects your teeth should have a sort of rough/grabby feeling to them. And that gray residue is exactly what vindi said about the mold releasing agent. With higher quality bb's the manufacturers actually compress a kind of chalky plastic into spherical molds and heat them to give them that seamless finish.

ah ok, i had a feeling it had something to do with the folic acid in the dark cola... I just did the sock method with my .36s and .43s since I didnt have any cola around (gave the stuff up a while ago... makes it rather annoying when I want to wash BBs or do a coke can test) I have a game tomorrow so I'm stoked to see how this works, if all goes well I'll probably give the coke a try next time...

update: Washing the BBs was AMAZING... straight and level for 110+ with .36s, slight hook to the right, but I think thats just because my bucking is a little off centered. I look forward to trying with the cola in my next batch... however now i just need to find a new place to play... :-(

Hate to say it, but its going to make everyone who already does it feel smug...... told you so!

It might be a good idea to drop your barrel out now and run a swab dipped in clean washing up water through the barrel and hop a couple of times and then a couple of dry ones to remove the excess moisture, to get rid of any mould release grease build up on your hop rubber and barrel, you never know you might close up the groups even farther ;)
