Hi snipers,
I'm just wondering where is your border of beeing satisfied with your airsoft sniper gun. When is the moment when you can say" It's good enough, I won't tuning it anymore". What accuracy/grouping size in example 70m/77yd will satisfy you? We talk about good conditions without wind, warm weather, static position. 15cm? 30cm? 50 cm? Cheers!

Well my goal is a 4mm hole at 200m, smaller than a BB itself, but that definitely is impossible lol.

My best accuracy was 20 shots on a 32cm plate at 75m with a VSR and .48g BBs, which I have never been able to replicate, and another good group was like 80 shots on a 45-55cm truck rim at 85m with a Polarstar F2 in an M4 with .36g BBs.
I have been slowly and surely creeping up on those numbers again, but I currently have nothing left of my VSR-10 save for the HPA engine that was in it, and my M4 is probably only going to last a few more months until I swap out the engine and barrel into a homemade better body.

I'll bookmark this post and hopefully get back to it with some hard numbers and real photographs.

70m? Every single shot on an A4 sheet of paper, which my old APS96 could do. I haven't had the chance to try that far with my current VSR but with the results thus far I am hoping to push that performance significantly further.

Ideally around A4 however any day where a torso/plate carrier is a day I won't complain about, in the UK it's nearly always got a mild breeze at minimum where I play so probably more of a higher tolerance due to those circumstances.

I usually only go for torso size hits at 80m for 99% of my guns. While my VSR certainly does farther than that, I find the endevor to be more "chasing last 2%" level of insanity, that honestly doesn't really amount to anything truly meaningful other than gloating.

Yes, and no.

All you realistically need is to be able to hit a torso at a given range and you're golden....or at least 90% of the time, if not 95% of the time. Whilst uncommon (at least in my experience UK fields generally aren't as open as we might wish) I have had occasion to take shots at longer distances (I won't even consider them under 50m) so I like to have a reasonable chance of landing a hit if I know my dope....not for stroking my epeen, but just to have a small degree of satisfaction in a job well done.

With that said, I've got a mate who runs an extreme range rig which (infrequently I might add, the whole setup was more of an experiment) whilst quite impractical for many situations, will lob a BB significantly further than 120m. He uses one of those periscope-style scope extenders and a tripod so whilst he is at the mercy of the wind, it's amazing to see those shots land.

I have landed a few shots past 130m. But its more luck than skill at that point as there are far too many things to ruin that shot. Either case not getting into that as its not all that practical for in game use. Factor in the time it takes to really tune all that, its just not really all that big of a deal. I enjoy playing airsoft more, than I do wasting my weekends perfecting hop trajectories to give me and extra 2m of usable range to hopefully use in a game, given I am not using that game day to further perfect something to hopefully use next time. It's a vicious cycle that you need to know when to draw the line.

I drew that line a long time ago. Ceramics and the knowledge of spring construction and making custom springs is expensive and time consuming. Not doing that anymore.

I’m sure none of us mind turning but chasing 1% gets old fast! I used to have a Firefly hop with kurage packings and that put me off tuning for life....or at least the extreme OCD style it’s easy to lose hours to....,

Minute of men. Now really, just consistently hitting my opponents at that range is good enough. These are toy guns, I don't expect to stack holes at any significant distance.

As a cripple , stuck in a wheelchair for past 12 years I quit with the games . Since then I am shooting mainly indoors in a abandoned milk processing factory near my home ,where I have clar range of a max 70 meters . With my Novrisch TAC338 Ltd. I have 100% in a 6.5 x 6.5" standard competition paper target ( 27 of 27 BB's in ) For me is good enough. My top score is 27 shots in 5" . It happened only once, but rest of the results are close . With some of my DMR's at 70 meters have consistent success at A4 paper sheet . I can't expect much more form an AEG platform , and having no "wet dreams" about 100 BB's in one hole

Most of the time I’m not in situations that allow me to make further shots, since my opponents usually have their eyes on me, and can easily duck when the BB takes 3 seconds to fly. At my field we play different sizes of map related to amount of players, so unless there are 30-40 players around, I don’t get too many opportunities.

However, I have made a couple of nasty 80 yd shots that absolutely made my day. It is work though to keep my DMR in optimal condition. I’ve found that I’m ordinarily more effective with a less-tuned setup that does better than the average AEG, but still allows me to get into the thick of things.

silent gun + black or dark grey bb is fun in those situation, because they will look at you and wait for some noise or to see the bb, and they are hit like dears on highway looking at cars beams.
