There is a lot of talk on these forums about the role of a sniper and DMR, what I'm curious is to what extent are we talking about in terms of range and engagement distances?

What do you consider to be "long range" for your setup?

I know for some 100 feet is considered long range, and for others 300ft is considered long range? So what's your opinion for the 2 roles below?

500 fps sniper rifle?
450fps DMR?

110m or more then that is 'long range'. Closer than that is pretty much a given with all of my rifles, so it is 'medium range'.

I am using:
Asahi Bushmaster (~350 fps), Magna Barrel (variant on the Sheriff LRB)
Kokusai CAR-15 (~360-370 fps), Booster/CMI tuned SCS (Spin Control System, classic hopup)
JAC AUG (~350-360fps), Classic LRB
ToyTec P90 (~330 fps) <- I only use this one for close work, only hits to about 200 feet. (uses SCS setup)
CA M24 (~350 fps), ER-hop, CMI LRB

My take on long range in airsoft is the 200-300 foot range, where a shooters ability and intimacy with his rifle matters a significant amount. A well tuned assault rifle can easily be effective at the sub 200 range.

*edit: I am using a G&G L96 with King Arms hop-up conversion, and 6.01mm TBB soon to add R-hop and LRB*

Around 100m or a little under is long range for me. I could do better if I got the LRB but I'm even more reluctant to do that than I was with the TDC. EDIT: I am using a bar10 (in my desc) with about 550 fps, although after all the talk about optimal fps being 300, I might go lower.

Long range I would say begins at 100 feet, where most AEGs begin to lose their grouping and the observant enemy can duck incoming fire.

I run my DMR at 500-550 and get out to something a bit more than 150 yards with man-sized performance. 100 feet is a breeze. gets a bit trickier about 150ft, since there is almost always wind or sticks or some crap, but in the calm 200ft is still a simple shot.

I think an AEG and Springer can run the same sort high-power levels. These being even, the DMR is supreme at rapidly engaging opponents at a stand-off range, for either inflicting casualties, count-sniping, establishing fire superiority, or eliminating high-value targets.

The springer-type must do the same sort of work, and it can, but it is not as practical for the job.

I run about 600 fps in my kjw m700, 225 feet is long for me. (my hop is messed up thats why i dont have a ton of range with the fps but anything in that range is dead meat..lol)

I'd say around the 250' range for me. Right now I'm running a type 96(PDI upgraded to 550fps). My rifle's range dies at about 265'. And for aeg's, long would be around the 200' mark, but like someone said before, shots from an aeg at that range are easily dodged.
